Man United 0-1 Atletico Madrid LIVE! Felix goal - Preseason friendly result, match stream and latest updates
Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid - LIVE!
Manchester United are in the Norwegian capital of Oslo this afternoon for their penultimate pre-season test under Erik ten Hag. Cristiano Ronaldo has declared himself available to face Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford tomorrow, but United’s team today is expected to closely resemble the one that will line up against Brighton on the opening weekend of the new Premier League campaign.
While there is still no Ronaldo today, and no Jadon Sancho either, United look poised to hand debuts to new signings Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez from the bench at Ullevaal Stadion as they look to get back to winning ways after finishing their tour of Australia with a last-gasp, rain-soaked draw with Aston Villa. That result followed wins over Crystal Palace and Melbourne Victory and a memorable thrashing of rivals Liverpool in Thailand.
They face another stern test against an Atletico team under Diego Simeone who kicked off their pre-season exploits with a 4-0 drubbing of Numancia in midweek and have meetings with Cadiz and Juventus up ahead. Follow the match live with Standard Sport’s blog below!
Man United vs Atletico latest news
GOAL! Felix looks to win it late on!
14:40 , Alex Young
So, a first loss of pre-season for Ten Hag & Co. Martial again lively, and new signings Malacia and Eriksen impressed.
One more friendly to go.
Full-time!
14:38 , Alex Young
94min: It’s all over in Oslo!
Red card!
14:35 , Alex Young
91min: Fred is shown a second yellow card for a clumsy trip on Morata. Seems very soft.
GOAL!
14:31 , Alex Young
87min: Breakthrough and that’s a fine finish!
Morata holds the ball up around 30 yards out, finds Felix on the left who cuts inside and finds the bottom left-hand corner.
14:29 , Alex Young
85min: Into the final five minutes as Rashford twists and turns inside the area only to shoot straight into Savic’s legs.
14:16 , Alex Young
72min: Instant impact from Eriksen, who pings a stunning cross to Elanga inside the area and the youngster should bury it from close range.
14:13 , Alex Young
69min: Huge ovation as Eriksen comes on, replacing Martial. Van de Beek is also on for McTominay.
14:07 , Alex Young
62min: A surprise pop from distance from Fernandes but he’ll have to do better to beat Oblak.
14:05 , Alex Young
60min: Joao Felix and Antoine Griezmann have joined the fray.
14:03 , Alex Young
59min: Atleti set to make what looks like seven changes, including introducing Morata, Witsel and Saul.
14:01 , Alex Young
54min: Heart in mouth time for United as Rashford goes down in the area after a kick from Molina. Replays show the defender just booted his foot and Rashford drags himself to his feet.
13:56 , Alex Young
51min: A nice break from Atleti, who are showing a bit more this half, releases Lemar diagonally across goal but Maguire gets a boot in to block his low shot.
13:52 , Alex Young
48min: Smart little turn on the edge of the area by Elanga almost creates an opening for Martial, but Atleti clear.
That was very neat by the youngster.
Second half
13:50 , Alex Young
Back under way. No changes.
13:47 , Alex Young
Not much in the way of clear-cut chances but United have had the best of it in Oslo.
Second half coming up.
Half-time
13:33 , Alex Young
48min: That’s your lot for the first half.
13:32 , Alex Young
46min: Couple minutes added on.
13:30 , Alex Young
45min: Best chance so far and it falls to Elanga in the area after Fred works an opening. A snap shot at Oblak, which the keeper gets down low to stop.
13:26 , Alex Young
40min: A little argy-bargy in the Atleti penalty area as McTominay and Oblak clash. It’s about 10 on one - the one being McTominay - but he’s unfazed.
13:23 , Alex Young
36min: A fantastic free kick delivery from Fernandes from the right-hand side, searching for Maguire and Lindelof but both defenders are unable to get a touch.
13:19 , Alex Young
34min: Bit more of a threat from Atleti as they work the ball between the lines to release Correa into the area, but De Gea is quickly off his line to snuff over the danger.
13:17 , Alex Young
31min: Elanga is in the wars today. Llorente twists, turns and then tumbles over the forward, who shrieks in pain.
13:15 , Alex Young
28min: Fred now into the book for a tug on Kondogbia. That was very soft.
13:12 , Alex Young
25min: First real sight of goal for Atleti as they break into the area but Llorente and Correa get in each other’s way and the move breaks down.
Not quite on the same wavelength.
13:10 , Alex Young
22min: Someone needs to remind Lemar that it’s a friendly.
He gets booked for a rough challenge on Elanga, who has struggled to impose himself today.
13:04 , Alex Young
16min: Martial again!
He’s oozing this confidence as he turns on a sixpence inside the area but his shot is deflected wide. All United so far.
12:59 , Alex Young
12min: Little break in play as Elanga takes a tumble and stays down. He should be fine.
12:55 , Alex Young
9min: United really look dangerous and that is a superb touch for Martial to bring the ball down in the area, but he cannot apply the finish under pressure.
12:53 , Alex Young
5min: United enjoying the majority of possession in these early stages. They look confident.
Chance!
12:50 , Alex Young
2min: Martial should have added to his healthy pre-season tally!
He races through on goal but his shot sails over the bar. Good chance.
Kick-off!
12:46 , Alex Young
We’re underway in Oslo.
12:45 , Alex Young
Slight delay as the teams swap ends ahead of kick-off. Not sure why.
12:43 , Alex Young
Here come the players.
It’s worth noting that Atleti are a few weeks behind United in terms of pre-season and, therefore, fitness. Still a top team but perhaps not firing on all cylinders this afternoon.
12:41 , Alex Young
Teams are in the tunnel.
12:38 , Alex Young
There’s a guy on the pitch with a guitar singing United songs. This isn’t a home game, by the way.
Kick off in just under 10 minutes.
Atletico line-up
12:27 , Alex Young
Starting XI: Oblak; Gimenez, Savic, Molina, Reinildo; Kondogbia, Llorente; Lemar, Correa, Carrasco, Cunha
Ten Hag to MUTV
12:18 , Alex Young
“This is the last test. We want the players to get the minutes in the legs and, of course, we want to see a team performance.
“This is a good test because it’s a difficult opponent, they are really tough to play and I am really looking forward. The majority has to play 90 minutes because that is what you want when you come into the league. This is the purpose of these two games [Atletico and Rayo Vallecano]."
12:15 , Alex Young
Here are the subs.
Heaton, Kovar, Telles, Laird, Martinez, Eriksen, Garner, Pellistri, Van de Beek
12:11 , Alex Young
I would imagine today’s line up is likely very close to what we will see in next week’s Premier League opener against Brighton. Jadon Sanchon aside, and perhaps Lisandro Martinez, then this is United’s strongest XI - Cristiano Ronaldo aside.
11:57 , Alex Young
Jadon Sancho is absent today through illness, the club have confirmed.

Sancho emerges as Man United injury doubt
11:06 , George Flood
It seems that Jadon Sancho has now emerged as an injury doubt for Manchester United today.
It is being reported that the England winger has travelled to Oslo with his team-mates, but is not quite fully fit.
A blow for Ten Hag, who will not want to take any risks over Sancho’s fitness with the start of the new Premier League season now just days away.
Man United vs Atletico prediction
10:46 , George Flood
United are a touch further along in their pre-season campaign than Atletico and, frankly, have looked very strong.
Man United to win, 2-0.
Atletico team news - Molina could make debut
10:44 , George Flood
For Atletico, a strong team is expected today involving the likes of Jan Oblak, Thomas Lemar and Alvaro Morata.
Antoine Griezmann, Marcos Llorente, Koke, new signing Axel Witsel and Renan Lodi, who scored the decisive winning goal in the Champions League last-16 second-leg tie at Old Trafford earlier this year, could also come in.
Diego Simeone could also hand a first start to Argentina international right-back Nahuel Molina, who recently signed from Udinese.
Man United team news - Eriksen and Martinez in squad
10:34 , George Flood
Cristiano Ronaldo has not travelled to Oslo, though did take to social media on Friday night to declare himself ready to return in Sunday’s friendly against Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford.
New signings Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez played in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Wrexham at Carrington in midweek and have made the trip to Norway today, with Erik ten Hag expected to name a strong team that will resemble the one he picks to play against Brighton in their Premier League curtain-raiser next weekend.
