Man United 1-0 West Ham LIVE! Rashford goal - Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Manchester United vs West Ham - LIVE!

A late Marcus Rashford goal saw Manchester United overtake West Ham in the Premier League’s top four.

On what could prove to be a pivotal day come May, Ralf Rangnick’s ability to bring on big-name reinforcement in Rashford, Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani proved decisive.

In truth, West Ham struggled to get into the game. A few half chances here and there were all the away fans had to shout about other than some classy defending from the returning Kurt Zouma.

For much of the game, United dominated proceedings, albeit without creating way in the way of clear cut chance. Until the final kick of the game, it looked to be a hugely frustrating afternoon at Old Trafford.

Still, United found a way.

Late drama!

CHANCE FOR WEST HAM

16:44 , Jonathan Gorrie

84:00 - Soucek heads just wide from a Bowen corner.

Marital booed

16:41 , Jonathan Gorrie

82:00 - Wow, Old Trafford has spoken.

Ralf rings the changes

16:40 , Jonathan Gorrie

Man United not having much luck

16:34 , Jonathan Gorrie

75:00 - Telles and Fernandes have had to shoot from reasonably long ranges, such has been West Ham’s strong defending.

The away side won’t mind that.

Ronaldo frustrated

16:32 , Jonathan Gorrie

72:00 - Here comes the strop...

West Ham change

Jack Rosser from Old Trafford

16:27 , Jonathan Gorrie

West Ham’s set piece delivery has been really quite poor today. They’re usually very dangerous from dead balls and have the added threat of Soucek and Zouma back in today but each delivery has been too easy for Manchester United to deal with.

16:26 , Jonathan Gorrie

What a run from Jarrod Bowen

16:26 , Jonathan Gorrie

69:00 - Stopped in the end but Bowen has just dragged the ball from his own half into the United penalty box.

CHANCE FOR MAN UNITED

16:20 , Jonathan Gorrie

62:00 - Elanga hits a volley but it goes just wide.

CHANCE FOR MAN UNITED

16:16 , Jonathan Gorrie

58:00 - Varane heads over from a Telles corner.

Jack Rosser from Old Trafford

16:15 , Jonathan Gorrie

Things have livened up a touch in the second half. We’ve had a shot on target from United and now West Ham are starting to threaten up the other end. The full-backs are getting higher and more involved down either flank and causing trouble for the hosts.

CHANCE FOR WEST HAM

16:15 , Jonathan Gorrie

55:00 - Bowen hits the side netting with a volley after the ball is rebounded to him after a corner.

Defending a positive for West Ham

16:12 , Jonathan Gorrie

51:00 - Given how poorly West Ham have defended of late, their ability to sit back and absorb pressure is a huge improvement on the Leeds game.

Something to write about...

16:08 , Jonathan Gorrie

Shot on target alert!

16:07 , Jonathan Gorrie

49:00 - Areola does well to save from Fred.

Wasteful afternoon

16:05 , Jonathan Gorrie

47:00 - No attempts on target during the gmae so far.

A watchable game, still.

Back underway!

Here we go!

A Rice masterclass

Not a day for goals...

15:53 , Jonathan Gorrie

More of this needed

15:49 , Jonathan Gorrie

Jack Rosser’s half-time verdict

15:47 , Jonathan Gorrie

West Ham have restricted United well in this first half, with the hosts not managing a shot on target. Rice and Zouma have done well in that respect but it’s all been far too wasteful on the ball. Rash, wayward passes every time they’ve had a chance to get forward.

HT: Man United 0-0 West Ham

15:47 , Jonathan Gorrie

Honours even at the break.

United should be ahead

15:44 , Jonathan Gorrie

43:00 - Will be a concern that, despite the level of their pressure and their stellar names in attack, United can’t find a way past this West Ham defence.

15:39 , Jonathan Gorrie

United want a penalty

15:37 , Jonathan Gorrie

36:00 - Ronaldo down after a tackle from Zouma.

Nothing given despite his claims.

Oh dear...

15:35 , Jonathan Gorrie

West Ham can take heart

15:35 , Jonathan Gorrie

33:00 - Moyes’ side haven’t been brilliant by any means but they will feel they’ve stemmed the tide thus far.

To keep United out despite their pressure, that has to be the only positive.

A very good spell for United

15:31 , Jonathan Gorrie

Jack Rosser from Old Trafford

15:29 , Jonathan Gorrie

Moyes is growing frustrated with West Ham’s use of the ball here. United have been in control and West Ham appear in a bit of a rush to get forward when they win the ball. Moyes is looking for a touch more composure from his players.

Wave after wave of United attack

15:26 , Jonathan Gorrie

23:00 - West Ham just cannot get out.

From wide areas, United are dominating.

Jack Rosser from Old Trafford

15:21 , Jonathan Gorrie

A big let off for West Ham there. The visitors made an encouraging start in the opening few minutes but are struggling to get any sort of foothold in this game so far, United controlling and would have been ahead if Ronaldo had got to that cross.

15:19 , Jonathan Gorrie

Ronaldo frustrated

15:19 , Jonathan Gorrie

16:00 - Ronaldo fuming about Greenwood.

The youngster does well to evade his marker but doesn’t pass to the Portuguese, instead going for a Hollywood pass.

Maguire playing well

15:15 , Jonathan Gorrie

14:00 - Not always the case but Maguire has done very well so far.

Denies Antonio this time.

Most of the ball in the West Ham half

15:14 , Jonathan Gorrie

13:00 - Not a lot of attacking thrust from West Ham so far but the early stages at Old Trafford are always difficult ones to navigate.

Jack Rosser from Old Trafford

15:11 , Jonathan Gorrie

Manchester United have made a much better start than they did on Wednesday night but Moyes has clearly taken note of how Brentford exposed Rangnick’s side in midweek. The Hammers are showing plenty of energy in midfield and looking to disrupt United wherever possible, just as the Bees did to great effect in the first half on Wednesday night.

Ronaldo lines up a free-kick

15:10 , Jonathan Gorrie

09:00 - In the least shocking news of all time, Ronaldo hits it into the wall.

Good defending from Harry Maguire

15:08 , Jonathan Gorrie

07:00 - The United captain, often derided, does well to stop Jarrod Bowen getting a shot off in a good position.

Half-chance for Man United

15:06 , Jonathan Gorrie

05:00 - Dawson looses the ball and Fernandes frees Greenwood in-behind but he’s eventually blocked out.

Given how poorly West Ham have defended of late, that’s a concern.

Declan Rice looks perfect for Man United

15:05 , Jonathan Gorrie

04:00 - West Ham fans won’t like us for saying this but Rice’s ability to break up play and drive forward looks like a modern version of Bryan Robson.

Positive start for West Ham

15:03 , Jonathan Gorrie

03:00 - West Ham have started well, playing the ball around nicely early on.

West Ham transfer news

14:36 , Jonathan Gorrie

Asked whether breaking into the Champions League places would mean having to manage bigger egos, Moyes said: “That’s a really good question because I don’t think any manager wants d********. And I don’t know if you can correlate d******** with big egos, there is a difference. You can have a big ego and not be a d*******.

“We are still building here at West Ham. We have to keep putting a few layers on before we can be talked about as challenging. If possible I would like to give the West Ham supporters someone else they can shout about, someone else they can see a continued line of us trying to keep it going.

“But what I don’t want to do is waste any money. I would rather keep it and pay bigger for someone next summer if I have to rather than waste it on someone that I might not use at the moment.

Ralf Rangnick on Cristiano Ronaldo’s Brentford antics

14:15 , Jonathan Gorrie

“I don’t blame him for that but obviously any manager would wish it shouldn’t be too emotional and also in front of the TV cameras I don’t think this will be for the benefit of anyone: not to his benefit or teammates,” Rangnick said. “It’s an emotional game and players are emotional and I didn’t take it personally at all.

“I didn’t at all see or interpret that he was challenging me. This was not the first time – if you have a look at the moment when Sir Alex [Ferguson] replaced him or other coaches, his reaction was pretty similar, which shows in the end it has got nothing to do with the manager. It’s about his own ambition and desire to stay on the pitch.

“It’s a team sport and for us it’s important for us that we get the most out of each game, the maximum points, and it’s a decision of each manager [regarding] what we need right now in order to win. I’m not somebody who says afterwards everything was perfect but in this case everything that I had hoped regarding the result of that decision was confirmed in the end.”

David Moyes on Mark Noble’s infamous penalty miss

14:11 , Jonathan Gorrie

Speaking about Mark Noble’s last-gasp penalty miss against United in September, Moyes admitted he got the decision to bring the captain on with so little time left ‘wrong’.

“I didn’t enjoy my own company for a few days after it because I beat myself up about it, but when you’re a football manager you have to make decisions,” he said.

“Sometimes you get them right and sometimes you get them wrong.

“On the day, I got this one wrong, but I still think the real reasons for doing it were the right ones, and if we’re being fair, Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been playing out of his skin this season and made a great penalty save that day.”

Your Evening Standard prediction

13:46 , Jonathan Gorrie

United are so hard to judge at the moment and, if they play like they did in the first-half against Brentford, West Ham will surely punish them.

1-1 draw.

Early West Ham team news: Tomas Soucek to be assessed

13:36 , Jonathan Gorrie

West Ham are checking on the fitness of Tomas Soucek and Kurt Zouma ahead of this afternoon’s Premier League clash with Manchester United.

Soucek has been absent since West Ham’s FA Cup third-round win over Leeds United following a positive test for coronavirus.

Zouma has also suffered a bout of Covid and has not played since picking up a hamstring tendon injury against former club Chelsea in December.

Both have returned to training this week but Moyes will still make a late call on whether or not they are able to face United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Early Man United team news: Cristiano Ronaldo a doubt

13:25 , Jonathan Gorrie

Prior to the win at Brentford, Ralf Rangnick confirmed Edinson Cavani had picked up a slight injury in training. Jadon Sancho, meanwhile, missed the game because of personal reasons and is likely to do so again.

The same goes for Victor Lindelof after a break-in at his home earlier this week. Cristiano Ronaldo is also a doubt after injuring his neck at Brentford.
