Manchester City will hope 13 is not their unlucky number as they travel to inconsistent Huddersfield on Sunday to continue their 12 game unbeaten start to the season.

Having suffered only one defeat at the John Smith’s Stadium so far this campaign, David Wagner will look to capitalise on his side’s strong home form to make up for their away day sorrows.

Pep will have heeded the warning of Manchester United’s 2-1 loss at Huddersfield a month ago, but this won’t change his domineering approach to the match.

Key battles

Mooy v Fernandinho

Ex-City man, Aaron Mooy, has arguably been Huddersfield’s stand-out player this season, linking an inconsistent defence and attack with the most passes of any Huddersfield player (658).

However, Fernandinho tops the league’s passing charts with 1,037 passes, and it will be Mooy’s job to break the Blues’ rhythm to trigger a counter-attack.

With Fernandinho rested against Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday, he will be fresh to control City’s engine room, but the question is can Mooy stop it?

Schindler v Jesus

Huddersfield missed suspended Christopher Schindler last weekend in a 4-0 crushing at Bournemouth, but he returns to the overwhelming task of restricting Gabriel Jesus’ influence on the game.

Schindler leads his team’s clearances, interceptions and aerial battles charts and will face Jesus, who has now scored eight goals in 11 Premier League appearances this season.

City will dominate possession and it will be down to Schindler and his back line to tighten up after conceding seven in their last three games.

Who to pick

Huddersfield have only scored more goals (8) than 19th placed Swansea (7) and rock bottom Crystal Palace (6), so picking a City defender would be a sensible choice this week.

To take advantage of Huddersfield’s attacking weakness and City’s attacking strength, Kyle Walker (£15 on Yahoo) appears a strong selection.

The flying full-back will to get involved in the build-up as usual, so there is a chance he could add to his assist tally (4) against the Terriers.

Who to avoid

Sergio Aguero was poor on Tuesday night against Feyenoord and the fact he played the full match indicates he will not be in the line-up this weekend.

On Monday, Pep explained he is unable to play both Jesus and Aguero together now Mendy is injured, and this could spell rotation trouble for those with City’s strikers in their team.

Jesus (£25 on Yahoo) appears to be Pep’s preferred striker due to his superior work rate and selfishness with the ball, leaving the Blues’ all-time top goalscorer on the bench.

Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero reacts after missing a scoring chance against Feyenoord and now he will most likely sit on the bench at the weekend.

Who to watch

Vincent Kompany’s return to the starting line-up at the weekend came as a shock to everyone, and now John Stones is injured he will be heavily relied on to organise City’s defence.

One game is not enough to prove his injury woes are behind him, so keep an eye on how he fairs on Sunday before throwing him into your team too early.

With low confidence in his fitness, he is significantly cheap (£14 on yahoo), so time his selection right and it could be a gamble that pays off.
