Manchester City test themselves on a cold, possibly-rainy night in Stoke on Monday as they edge closer to the Premier League title.

Stuck in 19th with only one win in 2018, it seems Paul Lambert’s side will try to frustrate the league leaders to avoid a repeat of the 7-2 scoreline last time out.

Key Battles

Stafylidis V Sane

Leroy Sane has been electric since City battered Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates, and he will be vital if City are to do the same to Stoke.

Nobody appears to be able to contain the 22-year-old when he’s on these runs of form, but that’s what Konstantinos Stafylidis will have to do to avoid embarrassment.

The reverse fixture will weigh heavily on the minds of the Stoke back line, so they’ll be determined to put up a fight in front of their home crowd: but will it be enough?

Zouma v Aguero

After a massively disappointing season so far, Kurt Zouma has seemed the greatest component of this Stoke outfit.

The Chelsea loanee will relish games against the big boys to prove his worth against one of the greatest strikers in the league’s history.

That very man, Sergio Aguero, will want to make sure he remains the top dog up front now Gabriel Jesus is back to fitness, so he must continue his excellent form against the Potters.

Who to pick

Over the last month Bernardo Silva has cemented himself as first choice on the right flank, contributing two goals and an assist in his last three games.

Raheem Sterling is now ready to rejoin the matchday squad and will want his spot back, so Silva will be determined to impress again to keep his place in the side.

With a salary of just £18 on Yahoo, he seems a great pick on a week where he will have the ball inside the final third for most of the game.

Who to avoid

Danilo has failed to get a consistent run of games since arriving at Manchester City despite Benjamin Mendy’s injury.

Danilo has played his best football in a City shirt over the past month, particularly in games like the one on Monday, but it seems Fabian Delph is now ready to step back into the role.

It appears that Pep Guardiola will now rotate between Oleksandr Zinchenko and Delph on the left for the remainder of the season barring any more injuries.

The Brazilian is a right-back by trade anyway, but then Kyle Walker has that position nailed on, so his opportunities in this team look very bleak going forward.

Who to watch

Gabriel Jesus may struggle to get back into the starting lineup, with Segio Aguero playing some of his best football recently.

Gabriel Jesus played the full 90 minutes and scored against Basel in midweek, so he’ll want to get back onto the team sheet on Monday.

Since Jesus’ injury, Aguero has stepped up tenfold and the Brazilian may not be Guardiola’s first choice anymore, so they will have to battle it out to see who starts the big games up top.

It’s been hard to predict who the manager will pick when both are at full fitness, so be careful when selecting either in the next couple of games.
