Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford gets engaged to childhood sweetheart Lucia Loi

Marcus Rashford has got engaged to long-term girlfriend Lucia Loi following a romantic proposal while on holiday in California.

A representative for the Manchester United footballer and MBE recipient confirmed the happy news to the Standard.

Rashford and Loi, both 24, have been dating since the age of 15 when they were pupils at Ashton on Mersey school in Greater Manchester.

They split briefly after eight years together in February 2021, but reconciled the following year.

The footballer, who also plays for England, got down on one knee during a post-season getaway in California, according to The Sun.

A source told the publication: “They went out in LA for a romantic night together on Tuesday and he proposed. It was extremely romantic.

“They celebrated afterwards with a group of close friends — including his United teammate Jesse Lingard.”

Another source added: “All involved are thrilled at the recent news of the engagement.”

They went on to speak about Loi’s influence on the Premier League star, who has received plaudits for his charitable work off the pitch, but has struggled to perform on it since having shoulder surgery.

“Lucia has been a big part of Marcus’ life... offering stability, a sense of belonging and assurance that can be rare to find.”

While not addressing the news directly, both Rashford and Loi shared a picture on Instagram of them embracing as they stood atop a bed of white roses in front of a heart-shaped archway.

The caption simply read the date “24.05.22”.
