Manchester United vs Crystal Palace - LIVE!

Casemiro scored one and provided another as Manchester United began their defence of the Carabao Cup with a straightforward victory against lifeless Crystal Palace. A lot has happened in the seven months since securing the first trophy of the Erik ten Hag era - and the Red Devils’ first silverware in six years - against Newcastle at Wembley.

Casemiro opened the scoring under the arch and found the net again in Tuesday’s 3-0 third-round triumph against Palace as United look to put their poor start to the season behind them. There were a combined 14 changes for an Old Trafford meeting that will be repeated in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, when Eagles boss Roy Hodgson will demand a vastly improved display.

United kept Palace at arm’s length in a one-sided first half that brought a pair of quickfire goals shortly after injury had ended Dean Henderson’s debut against his former club. First good team play ended with Alejandro Garnacho turning in Diogo Dalot’s cutback, before Casemiro headed home his fourth goal of the campaign from the returning Mason Mount’s corner. Anthony Martial rifled home from the Brazil international’s cross in the 55th minute as United rubber-stamped their place in Wednesday’s fourth-round draw by following up their much-needed win at Burnley.

Manchester United made a comfortable start to their Carabao Cup defence as they eased to a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Victory in last season’s final against Newcastle ended United’s six-year wait for silverware, and while the competition is far from the priority for Erik ten Hag this term, a routine win would have been a relief after a difficult start to the campaign.

Alejandro Garnacho and Casemiro scored in the space of six first-half minutes, before Anthony Martial netted after the break to ensure the result was put beyond doubt before the hour mark.

Tough first half for Crystal Palace; it just didn’t fall their way.

Dean Henderson, making his debut against the club whose academy he joined aged 14, was injured on 20 minutes, and almost immediately after his replacement Sam Johnstone entered the pitch, Manchester United took the lead. They soon doubled it, and have been in cruise control ever since.

Many in red are doing a pretty good job of auditioning for more Premier League action in the near future. The hosts very much in charge, both in the scoreline and the complexion of the match.

Jadon Sancho‘s future at Manchester United looks bleaker than ever following reports the forward has now been banned from all first-team facilities at the club - even the team dining areas.

Sancho has been exiled from the first-team squad after accusing manager Erik ten Hag of lying about the reasons for being omitted from the matchday squad to face Arsenal earlier in September.

Ten Hag said Sancho had not performed well in training, but Sancho hit back on X, formerly known as Twitter, claiming that was untrue and that he was being used as a “scapegoat”.

Sancho has since deleted the post but is no closer to a return to the squad. The Daily Mirror report that Sancho, who is training with the academy, has been barred from using all first-team facilities at the club’s Carrington training ground.

That includes eating with the senior squad, meaning Sancho now dines with the academy players.
