Manchester United vs Man City LIVE!

Manchester United struck twice in the space of four minutes late on to snatch a dramatic and controversial 2-1 derby win over Manchester City on Saturday. Jack Grealish looked to have headed City to a crucial victory in their pursuit of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League when he came off the bench to head home on the hour at Old Trafford.

But United responded to claim a hotly-contested equaliser through Bruno Fernandes after Marcus Rashford was deemed by VAR not to be interfering with play despite racing towards the ball from an offside position. City reacted furiously and failed to regroup after play restarted, allowing Rashford to poke home a winner from an Alejandro Garnacho cross eight minutes from time.

It was Rashford's eighth goal in his last seven appearances and lifted United to within a point of title-chasing City, whose recent indifferent spell after their midweek Carabao Cup exit continued. The result means Arsenal can now move eight points clear at the summit if they win their own derby contest against Tottenham on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag talks to BT Sport

15:13 , Marc Mayo

“First half we played very well, we defended very well. We were proactive with the breaks. We are really happy. At half time we should be 1-0 up but after half time it changed.

“We had to sub Antony Martial, he had some complaints. City came in again, we were not proactive anymore. Before I wanted to make a change, they score.

“The spirit in the team is so huge, the belief is there that the game is 90 minutes and they can score. They kept believing and I’m really happy with the performance.”

More from Pep Guardiola

15:00 , Marc Mayo

“I don’t care in the Premier League and the Carabao Cup if we don’t win, we won a late so... it’s not a problem. The problem is performing how we have done.

“So Carabao Cup is out. It doesn’t matter. But we didn’t perform how we are. And today we performed.

“Don’t be distracted by what happened today in the first goal, focus on a few days.”

Pep Guardiola asked about refereeing decisions

14:49 , Marc Mayo

“The game was really good, we played really good. They are a good team on the counter-attack.

“Well Rashford offside, Bruno Fernandes no. Rashford intervened or not... distract our goalkeeper and defenders... the rule I know is the rule. But I know how well we played.”

Marcus Rashford gives his reaction to BT Sport

14:32 , Marc Mayo

“Just a little knock. But in games like this you just have to try and push through, thankfully I managed to do that - scoring the goal at the end and winning the game.

“That’s what we set out to do, that’s always the aim with every game. This one is obviously a little bit special but pleased to have the three points and continue winning at Old Trafford.”

Huge.

GGGOOOOOAALLLL!!! Man United 2-1 Man City

14:11 , Marc Mayo

Garnacho picks it up wide left and there is acres of space as a first cross is blocked before a second is tucked away by Rashford!

14:11 , Marc Mayo

82 mins: Casemiro nods away Walker’s ball in, City stunned by that goal.

It came out of nowhere...

GGGOOOAAALLL!!! Man United 1-1 Man City

14:08 , Marc Mayo

79 mins: GIVEN!

Stuart Attwell talks to his linesman and it’s decided Rashford did NOT interfere with play and it counts!

GOA-NO!?

14:08 , Marc Mayo

78 mins: Wan-Bissaka again does well and Casemiro’s ball through for Rashford is let go by the offside striker...

Fernandes pops up to score though! The flag goes up and he is furious!

14:04 , Marc Mayo

75 mins: Fernandes has a moan at the referee after Shaw cleans out De Bruyne.

Then it’s Grealish’s turn after losing a decison for a throw-in with Wan-Bissaka. All a bit scrappy, now.

14:03 , Marc Mayo

73 mins: United really lacking spark, has Rashford really overcome that injury worry earlier? It really feels like a turning point in the game.

Still time for a leveller, though...

13:59 , Marc Mayo

70 mins: Here comes Garnacho as Ten Hag is forced into a rejig.

Not going to lie, this doesn’t feel like the sort of game Wout Weghorst would change much...

Eriksen the man to come off.

13:56 , Marc Mayo

68 mins: Some life in United and it’s Wan-Bissaka, of all people, leading the charge.

A tricky run ends in a deflected shot out for a corner, which goes short and Haaland easily clears.

Highlights: Grealish opens scoring

13:55 , Marc Mayo

13:53 , Marc Mayo

64 mins: Eriksen booked for sending Grealish to the turf.

13:51 , Marc Mayo

62 mins: De Bruyne has run every one of City’s attacks today - no surprise to see him grab the assist.

United have really struggled to generate any counters this half and the pressure has told.

GGGOOOOAALLL!!! Man United 0-1 Man City

13:48 , Marc Mayo

60 mins: IT’S BEEN COMING!

GREALISH WITH THE HEADER!

A delightful cross in from De Bruyne and the substitute buries his header.

13:46 , Marc Mayo

57 mins: The end of a real 4/10 display from Foden as Grealish comes on.

13:45 , Marc Mayo

56 mins: Cancelo the next go over after a mazy run! No dice.

This game has really opened up for the visitors.

Penalty appeal!

13:43 , Marc Mayo

54 mins: De Bruyne does brilliantly to forge a chance down the right, crossing for Silva to nod across goal.

A defensive header from Varane is there and Haaland finds Foden, who tumbles after losing control and Stuart Attwell gives it a convincing ‘no’.

13:41 , Marc Mayo

52 mins: Ake sticks a sturdy foot on the ball as Antony’s pass is skewed off-target, after a long hard look at the fallen Brazilian a foul is given.

A bit of a home-team decision, that.

Varane is very offside as he pokes a ball in wide.

13:40 , Marc Mayo

50 mins: No great change in the flow of the game as City sit on the ball, head up for a pass forward but often rebuffed by a very organised defence.

United have four clean sheets in five games.

13:37 , Marc Mayo

48 mins: The sun has broken out at Old Trafford as Silva looks bright and aims a deflected shot for De Gea to catch.

13:35 , Marc Mayo

46 mins: Rashford still on the left as we begin, Antony the man played through the middle.

Not a strategy that worked when moving Elanga centrally in midweek but let’s see how it pans out.

Kick-off! Man United 0-0 Man City

13:33 , Marc Mayo

So, Antony is on... for Martial. Rashford continues and goes up front!

Stats check

13:32 , Marc Mayo

City with 69 per cent of the ball in that half but just two shots to four, none of which were on target to United’s two.

Here come the players...

Will Rashford return for the second half?

13:26 , Marc Mayo

After pulling up with what looked like a hip or groin issue, the United striker received treatment and came back on.

But he was not exactly moving freely and didn’t break into a sprint in the final minutes of the half.

Will we see Rashford come back out for the second half or will Antony come on in his place?

At least Patrice Evra believes...

Chance of the half

13:22 , Marc Mayo

Could Rashford have done better? Ederson certainly could have!

13:17 , Marc Mayo

45 mins: Rashford opts not to sprint down the line and rolls a pass just into touch. He is yet to hit the gas since the injury worry.

One minute added on.

13:15 , Marc Mayo

44 mins: City on top as the clock ticks on the first half.

13:14 , Marc Mayo

42 mins: Rashford pulled up fairly innocuously and Antony is warming up.

It looks like he’ll give running it off a go.

13:12 , Marc Mayo

40 mins: Just a general sense that this is a very elite game of football.

May sound obvious to say but lots of touches, tackles and physical battles are of the highest order from both sides.

But... Rashford has gone down and looks hurt!

Chance Man United!

13:09 , Marc Mayo

38 mins: Rashford leaves Rodri for dead with his pace and Eriksen slips him in... Ederson off his line much better this time to win the one-on-one!

13:08 , Marc Mayo

36 mins: Foden gets on the end of a clipped De Bruyne cross and heads his attempt directly into the air.

City come forward again and Malacia chests Silva’s ball in back to De Gea.

A bit of a lively final part of the half.

Chance Man United!

13:05 , Marc Mayo

34 mins: Rashford rounds Ederson from a long ball as the goalkeeper needlessly flies off his line...

From a tight angle, his goalbound shot is blocked by Akanji!

13:04 , Marc Mayo

33 mins: Malacia back up after that break in play and he’ll return after some treatment.

13:03 , Marc Mayo

30 mins: Half an hour gone as United enjoy a bit of possession, although it’s all a little uncomfortable under the press.

A smart piece of play breaks into the City half but Walker snatches Fernandes’ pass to Malacia.

The left-back clatters into Walker and Stuart Attwell decides to stop play for a, seemingly minor, injury.

13:00 , Marc Mayo

28 mins: A bit more fluidity about the visitors now yet no harm in going long every now and then, thinks Ake, as he nearly picks out Silva with a pump upfield. De Gea gathers.

12:57 , Marc Mayo

25 mins: Haaland comes deep, turns a nice ball around to De Bruyne, who whips a trademark ball through to Foden... offside.

Cue Guardiola frustrated arm-waving on the touchline.

12:55 , Marc Mayo

23 mins: There he is! Haaland grabs possession after a cross is half-cleared and his shot is wonderfully blocked by Casemiro and Fred’s lunge.

A promising moment for the away team.

12:53 , Marc Mayo

22 mins: Just two touches of the football for Haaland. Foden has hardly been involved either - he’s just been caught offside.

12:52 , Marc Mayo

20 mins: A good Marhez corner is an inch too high for Ake to connect with. City still, generally, on top.

12:49 , Marc Mayo

18 mins: Ten Hag spoke about shutting Rodri down pre-game by selecting Fred but the Brazilian has been right on De Bruyne’s case thus far.

A fine bit of harrying ends one move before a wayward Rodri pass ends City’s next.

12:48 , Marc Mayo

16 mins: The camera spots Wout Weghorst in the stands, watching on with two of his daughters on his lap. The Burnley loanee was not signed in time to play today.

12:46 , Marc Mayo

15 mins: Cancelo gets back in the nick of time to prevent the ball landing to a United foot in the six-yard box after Martial’s break.

The temperature slowly rising in this one... De Bruyne not happy as a cross hits Fred and goes out for a goal kick.

12:44 , Marc Mayo

13 mins: Walker doing a bit of an ‘Mbappe job’ on Rashford today, something he did rather well at the World Cup.

Not much rush from the visitors in possession after a couple of sloppy balls already.

12:42 , Marc Mayo

11 mins: City gift the ball to Rashford and Fernandes bombs into the box from the right wing... his shot across goal goes wide!

12:41 , Marc Mayo

10 mins: Rashford gets into the game for the first time and cuts inside to tee up Martial, but the return pass into the box is crowded out. Malacia offside from the second attempt.

12:38 , Marc Mayo

7 mins: De Bruyne spins his marker well in City’s best move of the game so far, Cancelo clipping a ball into an empty far-post area that Malacia and Rashford combine to clear.

12:36 , Marc Mayo

4 mins: Malacia does well in an early one-on-one with Mahrez in the final third, the Algerian is on top form in an under-the-radar kind of way.

Walker shepherds the counter into touch as City look to put a foot on the ball in these early stages.

12:33 , Marc Mayo

2 mins: A 4-2-3-1 for United by the look of it, Fernandes wide right and Eriksen central attacking midfield as he commits a foul on Cancelo.

City in their usual 4-3-3 with Haaland roaming around up front.

12:32 , Marc Mayo

1 min: Gareth Southgate in attendance this afternoon alongside England assistant Steve Holland.

Martial and Akanji clash early in an aerial battle, no harm done though.

Can Haaland break Cole’s record?

12:22 , Marc Mayo

Andy Cole speaking pitchside at Old Trafford on his 34-goal record in a single Premier League season being under threat from Erling Haaland.

“Most definitely, I’d be surprised if it doesn’t go,” he says, having hit the tally in the 42-game 1993-94 season.

“No [I wouldn’t be annoyed], not at all. I’m not sentimental in that way whatsoever.

“Records are there to be broken and if he does do it, which I expect him to do, he deserves it. To have 21 goals by Christmas is absolutely crazy. His form, the team he plays in... he’s built to score goals.”

Kevin De Bruyne previews the derby on BT Sport

11:54 , Marc Mayo

“They’ve been having a good season, playing good football. It’s a derby so whatever happened before or after is thrown out of the window.

“When you have a schedule like we had last three, four games - travelling and coming home 2am - it’s hard anyway but I don’t think different players change the outcome of those games.

“We have a good team and we’re going to try and perform the best we do.”

Eight changes for Man City

11:50 , Marc Mayo

Not too many surprises from the visitors.

Nathan Ake is preferred to Aymeric Laporte at the back as Phil Foden keeps his place at the other end of the pitch.

Man United switch things up

11:46 , Marc Mayo

It was Pep Guardiola remarking about “ridiculous” plans for the derby but Erik ten Hag throws the curveball.

Fred starts in what could be a 4-3-3 or a typical 4-2-3-1 with Christian Eriksen or Bruno Fernandes out wide.

Antony is on the bench alongside Lisandro Martinez as Luke Shaw settles back to central defence. Anthony Martial is fit.

Erik ten Hag explains his selection on BT Sport

11:41 , Marc Mayo

“It’s an idea, to bring Fred there, we have a plan with that. They have to make choices. It gives us space, in the midfield or behind the defending line.

“Rodri is the key player in the build-up and organisation. We have to be really tight on him as he will set the tempo to play.”

Pep Guardiola on BT Sport

11:39 , Marc Mayo

“Always I feel the favourite but you have to prove it on the grass. It’s words, so I have a massive respect for United. Hopefully in the last decade they have respect for us. It’s in our hands to continue to do it.”

10:37 , Marc Mayo

Manchester United are looking for their ninth victory on the bounce, while Manchester City are recovering from what some have described as their worst performance under Pep Guardiola as Southampton knocked them out of the Carabao Cup.

So the momentum is with the hosts but I expect the visitors to step up and provide a reaction to their midweek loss. Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne will return, as mentioned above, and can prove the difference in any game.

Honours even at Old Trafford, 2-2 draw.
