Manuel Lanzini could face retrospective simulation ban for 'deception of the official' at Stoke

Manuel Lanzini is facing the prospect of a retrospective ban after being charged with simulation by the Football Association.

Lanzini, the West Ham United attacker, could be suspended for two games following the decision to charge him for "successful deception of a match official".

The Argentine went down under a challenge from Erik Pieters in the penalty area in West Ham's 3-0 win at Stoke on Saturday and a three-man independent panel reviewed video footage of the incident today.

Stoke's anger at the incident only increased after Mark Noble scored from the resulting penalty to set West Ham on their way to a crucial win.

Everton’s Oumar Niasse became the first Premier League player to be charged with ‘successful deception of a match official’ last month and was suspended for two games.

And Lanzini is facing similar punishment after the panel unanimously referred the incident to the FA.

The FA's statement read: "West Ham United’s Manuel Lanzini has been charged for ‘Successful Deception of a Match Official’.

"It follows the awarding of an 18th minute penalty against Stoke City on Saturday [16/12/17]. He has until 6pm on Tuesday [19/12/17]to respond."
