Marco Silva eyes Watford stay after the Hornets end Everton’s pursuit

Watford have today told Everton to ‘cease and desist’ in their pursuit in attempting to recruit Marco Silva as Ronald Koeman’s replacement.

The two clubs have been talking for several weeks now about the potential deal, but Watford have held strong and told them in no uncertain terms that this case is closed and they will not be entertaining further talks about this matter.

An offer of £10m was submitted to Everton to poach the highly-rated Portuguese boss, but was quickly rejected. Silva does not have a buy-out option in his current contract with Watford, and so the Toffees’ £10m offer on the table was a compensation package they thought was fair.

It was not just a case of finances for Watford, but also there were a lack of serious replacements available to them to replace the excellent Portuguese manager.

Everton were ready to significantly improve the offer, as well as Silva’s wages, but Watford have told them that there is no need to continue talks. They now want to move on with Silva in charge.

It is to no surprise that the Toffees were after the former Hull boss, given the expertise he has shown after only being in England for 11 months.

For Silva, perhaps the decision will be beneficial in the long term, with Arsène Wenger soon to move on from Arsenal and other managerial vacancies will undoubtedly arise in the coming years.

There is no doubt that Silva is destined for the elite level, and so, at 40, there is no rush to prove his worth at the upper echelons just yet.
