Marcus Rashford was subjected to "at least 70 racial slurs" on social media following Manchester United's Europa League Final defeat to Villarreal.

United lost a dramatic penalty shootout 11-10 to Unai Emery's Villarreal after the game ended 1-1 following extra time in Gdansk.

Rashford scored during the shootout, but faced criticism for a poor performance as he missed a huge chance in the second half of the game.

Following the game, Rashford took to social media to announce he had been targeted by sickening racist abuse across his social channels.

Rashford tweeted: "At least 70 racial slurs on my social accounts counted so far.

“For those working to make me feel any worse than I already do, good luck trying".

The England forward has been subjected to similar abuse in the past, while the world of sport recently united with football in a three-day boycott of social media to highlight the online abuse athletes and those involved in the sport face.

United soon tweeted afterwards that Rashford was not the only player to be targeted.
