South African cricketers Marizanne Kapp and Dane van Niekerk have made their way into the history books at the Women’s World T20.

The women cricketers tied the knot in July, with team skipper van Niekerk marrying teammate and all rounder Kapp in Johannesburg.

On Sunday, the married couple became the first ever pair to build a partnership and bat together in a major ICC tournament.

After Kapp made the news of their marriage public with an Instagram post from the wedding ceremony, they became just the second women’s cricket pair to tie the knot – following New Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu’s in March 2017.

Battling to make a positive start at 6/2, Kapp and van Niekerk proved to build an important partnership for the South Africans in the WT20 match against Sri Lanka.

The pair notched an unbeaten 66-run partnership before Kapp was called out for LBW, finishing on a game-high 38 runs.

The historic innings guided South Africa closer to the target, prevailing victorious in the 18th with 7 wickets to spare.
