Matt O'Riley Atletico Madrid maximum transfer fee as Celtic 'learn' what they'd pay

Celtic have been told Atletico Madrid won't spend the reported £33million asking price for Matt O'Riley.

The midfielder was the Player of the Year and clear standout last season at Parkhead where he smashed through his own personal best in terms of his statistics with a whopping 19 goals and 18 assists in all competitions. His performances both domestically and in the Champions League sparked interest from Diego Simeone and Atleti who tabled an official bid back in January that was booted out by the Hoops.

But with La Liga's giants expected to return to the table this summer, reports in Spain have suggested they won't splash out what Celtic seemingly value the player at but they are "closely monitoring" the situation.

Fichajes claim that Atleti view the valuation as a "complication" for their pursuit and that they've informed Celtic officials they won't reach that amount.

It's also being reported they WOULD be willing to get closer to around £25million but Celts would prefer to hold out for more.

Newcastle are also keen.
