Mauricio Pochettino in the dark over Chelsea future amid 'stupid rumours'

Mauricio Pochettino admitted he remains in the dark on his future at Chelsea after what could prove to be a breakthrough result for his Stamford Bridge tenure.

The former Tottenham boss, who has come under significant pressure from Blues fans this season, orchestrated a 2-0 demolition of his former team last night and hailed the result as the best on his watch.

The Argentine insisted no news must be interpreted as good news on revealing no one from Chelsea's board has spoken to him about plans for next term and hit out at "stupid rumours" that the hierarchy is yet to decide whether to back him to remain at the helm next season.

The 52-year-old's contract runs until the end of next term, and he revealed his assumption that he has the backing to carry on in the Blues hotseat. But he also conceded he is yet to be updated by Chelsea chiefs on next season's plans, even though he believes he has done enough to carry on.

If I have one more year on my contract here and no one says anything, then I suppose that I am going to be here.

"If I have one more year on my contract here and no one says anything, then I suppose that I am going to be here," said Pochettino. "If there's a decision and someone says to me 'ciao', okay. But because we don't know at the moment, then I suppose that I will be here.

"But enough of these stupid rumours. You need to ask the club, whether the club wants me to keep going or not. And stop writing things that make no sense."

Chelsea's win derailed Spurs' bid for Champions League qualification via a fourth-placed finish. Trevoh Chalobah and Nicolas Jackson nodded home from set-pieces as Chelsea kept their own European ambitions alive by completing a league double over their bitter rivals.

Pochettino branded the comprehensive win his favourite of Chelsea's challenging campaign and has as much confidence that Chelsea are on the cusp of a run of strong form as he does in his belief that he merits a second campaign at the tiller.

"It should be enough that we prove after this season and this situation that we deserve to be here next season," said Pochettino. "Who is going to judge me? We need to judge ourselves."

Chelsea host West Ham on Sunday, chasing successive league wins for the first time since January.

Christopher Nkunku, Levi Colwill and even captain Reece James are battling to be fit in time to face the Hammers. The Blues were missing 14 players for last night's win, but that crisis is poised to abate.

"When you come back from injury, you always need time to play at your best level," said Pochettino. "Because of different circumstances we haven't had much chance to put the whole team on the field. But you cannot blame the circumstances, and we cannot blame the players. It was important we showed yet again that playing and competing in this way we can achieve what we want."

Chelsea's run-in is against clubs sitting below them in the table. After the Hammers pitch up at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Chelsea face Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Bournemouth to finish their season.

Pochettino warned his players to keep total focus ahead of Sunday's clash. "These are the most dangerous games, because now it's about keeping the same mentality," he said.
