England cricket team’s head coach Chris Silverwood has given an update regarding the express pace bowler, Mark Wood’s injury. While his participation in the next Test is hard to confirm, he let the fans know that the medical team was working on his injury.

In the second Test against India at Lord’s, Wood was England’s best bowler in the second innings. He sent back both Indian openers, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma, with the former receiving a peach. He later came back on to dismiss Cheteshwar Pujara with a rip-snorter.

England is already short on the bowling front, having lost Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes to injuries. Ben Stokes withdrew from the series citing mental health issues. Therefore, Wood’s presence is almost a must, and coach Silverwood addressed the fitness issues of the pacer.

The medics are working on Woody. We’ll find out more in the next couple of days. He is a bowler who can hit 90mph-plus, so I’ve got to look after him, but he will be given every opportunity to be fit for Leeds and obviously, we will make a decision, along with him, and our medics closer to the time,” Silverwood said at a press conference.

Despite Mark Wood’s valiant efforts, England collapse under immense pressure against India

Wood’s excellent figures of 3/51 in 18 overs wasn’t enough to restrict India as a spectacular Indian lower-order resistance propelled the visitors to a huge lead. England was set an almost improbable target of 272 in two sessions.

It was never realistic to attempt the chase on a Day 5 track and any hopes of doing so were shattered at the start. Both Engish openers were sent for a duck, the first time ever in a home Test. The Yorkshire duo of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow fell on either side of Tea which tilted scales in India’s favor.

There was some determined batting from Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali but once the latter was dismissed by Mohammad Siraj, things unfolded quickly. With the win, India registered their first win in the 2021-23 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
