Michael Vaughan Reckons England Could Level The Series On Day 3 At Headingley

Michael Vaughan feels England bowlers could bowl India out on Day 3 of the Headingley Test and level the series on Friday itself. This remark came after India took the remaining two wickets of the England tail early.

It needed 20 legal balls for Indian bowlers to bowl England out after they had taken 8 wickets on Day 2. Mohammed Shami hit Craig Overton on his pads for an lbw dismissal, which remained after the batsman asked for a review; Jasprit Bumrah then castled Ollie Robinson for a duck.

England could add 9 more runs to their overnight score of 423 – their first innings lead being a massive 354 runs.

This has left India to bat out almost the entirety of Day 3, and two more days to save the game. A miracle is needed by the visitors to even save the game; they could now wish for some help from the rain gods. It seems highly unlikely that England could lose this game, although weirder things have happened in a game of cricket.

Michael Vaughan, considering India’s first innings effort and the help the pacers have got in the first session of the previous two days in this match, took to Twitter wondering if the game could be over on Day 3 itself. He is backing England to soon level the series, with two Tests to go.

Michael Vaughan hailed the current form of Joe Root as the best he has ever seen any England batsman bat.

Root notched up his sixth Test century of the year, and third in three matches, on Day 2 in Leeds. He has now amassed 1398 runs at 69.90 in 2021 and is nigh-certain to go past Vaughan’s tally of 1481 runs which he scored in 2002.

Overall, it is Pakistan’s Mohammad Yousuf, with 1788 runs he scored in 2006, at the top of the list. Joe Root has got a good chance to surpass Yousuf as he has, after the Leeds Test against India, five more games – two in the current series and three in the Ashes – before closing out the year, given he continues this freakish form.
