Middlesbrough confirm departure of first-team player - with details of deal revealed
MIDDLESBROUGH winger Sammy Silvera has joined newly-promoted Championship side Portsmouth on a season-long loan.
However, with Boro officials still adamant the Australian has a long-term future on Teesside, the deal that has taken Silvera to Fratton Park does not include a clause for a potential permanent transfer.
Silvera joined Boro last summer from Australian side Central Coast Mariners and made 12 Championship starts in his debut season on Teesside.
The 23-year-old also made 25 substitute appearances in the Championship, claiming six goals in all competitions.
Boro have strengthened their midfield and attacking ranks already this summer, signing Delano Burgzorg from Mainz and bringing in Aidan Morris from Columbus Crew, and with further additions expected, Silvera’s opportunities next season were expected to be limited.

As a result, he has been allowed to join a Portsmouth side that will be looking to reestablish themselves within the Championship following last season’s promotion from League One.
Pompey boss John Mousinho said: “This is a deal that we’re delighted to get over the line and we’re grateful to Middlesbrough for loaning Sammy to us.
“We’ve brought in a powerful and direct winger with Championship experience, who can play on both sides of the pitch and is technically very strong.
“He’s an exciting player and is capable of making things happen in the final third to get the crowd on their feet.”
