HIGHLY-RATED teenage midfielder Law McCabe has signed a new long-term contract at Middlesbrough.

The 18-year-old, who enjoyed an impressive breakthrough last season which led to his full Championship debut in the final day victory over Watford, has been rewarded with a new four-year deal.

It comes after a memorable campaign for the Teessider, who was named Boro's Academy Scholar of the Season. He was also called up to represent England's Under-18s.

He was a regular fixture in Middlesbrough's matchday squads last season, being named on the bench for 18 Championship games and featuring four times for the first team before making his first start against Watford.

At the end of last season, Carrick said of McCabe: “He’s such a down to earth lad. He’s learning all the time, and we’ve had him quite a lot with us this season for long spells. How he played is what we’ve seen in training every day.

“We’ve been trying to manage him right in terms of his training time and also game time. We felt this was the right time for him and he proved that right with how he coped with it. He had so much composure and his natural talent was on show.

“There will be so much more to come from him once he gets a few more games under his belt."
