BASILDON United midfielder Callum Stringer has won the Echo player of the month award for March.

Stringer picked up 31 per cent of the votes to edge out Bowers & Pitsea striker Matt Price and Great Wakering Rovers winger Harry Talbot.

And Stringer was thrilled to receive such recognition.

“I'm delighted to win the award and certainly a few votes from a few friends in Ireland definitely helped,” said Stringer.

“On the playing side of things it’s just about finding that consistency week in, week out now.”

Stringer joined Basildon back in February having started the season with Maldon & Tiptree.

The midfielder made nine appearances for the Jammers having previously played in Ireland.

Stringer came through the ranks at Waterford before going on to play for Cobh Ramblers.

But he is now enjoying playing in England.

“I’ve only been at the club a few months but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it,” said Stringer.

“The fans, players and chairman are all top class and it’s been really good.

“I’d previously played in the top two divisions in Ireland but I came to England to experience all the big competitions and hopefully push on.”

Basildon are currently ninth in Isthmian North.

And Stringer has been impressed by the standard of his team-mates.

“The lads have been in and around the play off places all season which is no fluke.” said Stringer.

“I think when everyone’s fit and playing well we’re a match for anybody.”

Basildon will be looking to prove that during the remainder of the season.

And Stringer is determined to end the campaign strongly.

“We want to finish as strong as possible,” said Stringer.

“On a personal note I want to cement myself in the manager’s plans and give the fans something to cheer who have been fantastic.”
