Runners who missed out on the London Marathon ballot are being encouraged to sign up for the Newport Marathon Festival.

Applications are now open for the early bird entry to the ABP Newport Marathon and interested participants can take advantage of a discount.

The event will take place on April 13, and with its limited time price of £48, participants will make a saving of £6 on entry.

The marathon forms part of the new ABP Newport Marathon Festival, an expanded event featuring additional races, including a half marathon, 10k and mile-long races.

While runners may have missed out on running past London's iconic landmarks, Newport offers several sightseeing opportunities, from the city centre to the vibrant waterfront and international sports village.

For those who love nature, the Gwent Levels scenic route and the city's coastal wildlife offer a wholesome experience.

As part of the Newport Marathon Festival, the ABP Marathon has been named as a must-do event by many due to its fast and flat course.

In fact, it’s been listed among the "10 fastest marathons in the world" by Runners World.

Matt Newman, chief executive of Run 4 Wales, organisers of the marathon, said: "Newport is definitely a city on the rise, steeped in history with a multi-cultural vibe.

"For those who haven’t got into the TCS London Marathon through the ballot, the ABP Newport Marathon is a fantastic alternative where runners can expect electric atmosphere and a warm Welsh welcome."

Thousands of participants have already signed up to join the festival, so if interested, act now to secure a place before the early bird offer ends.
