It was mixed fortunes for both Taunton Baseball Club sides as they were back on the diamond last weekend.

The Muskets split their double-header with the Weston Jets, losing 17-15 before winning the second game 5-4.

While the Pistols suffered a double defeat to the Cardiff Merlins A in Wales.

The Muskets hosted the Weston Jets, the reigning Wessex Division champions, in a rematch of their divisional playoff encounter from September 2023.

The first game, an intense contest, saw the Muskets narrowly lose 17-15 despite an impressive late rally.

The second game, however, saw the Muskets tighten their defence and ultimately emerge victorious with a 5-4 score.

A highlight emerged amid the intensity as Weston Jets' Nick Hodder hit a 2 run home run.

Meanwhile, the Pistols faced a challenging double header against the Cardiff Merlins A in Wales.

The first game ended in a disappointing 16-1 defeat for the Pistols, however, there was some redemption in the second fixture.

Despite the 15-14 loss, the Pistols showcased their improvement.

Their offence impressed, scoring 14 runs from 12 hits.

Pitcher Yechan Kim was particularly notable, earning a commendable inside-the-park home run.

He said: "Both our sides played really well today.

"It was unfortunate the Pistols couldn't quite hold on, but they are improving week by week."

Yechan Kim was recognised for his exceptional performance, earning the Tricky Cider MVP award, while Russ Chorley received a similar accolade for his instrumental role in the Muskets' victory, with particular praise for his defensive plays.

Next weekend will see the Muskets return to Weston for another face-off with the Jets.

The Pistols, on the other hand, look forward to hosting the Bournemouth Bears at Taunton Green.
