Mohamed Salah has shared an update showing that he is back in the gym two weeks after last playing a match.

Salah, 32, finished his season for Liverpool five weeks ago with two assists during a 3-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on the final day of the Premier League season. But the campaign continued into June for Egypt with two World Cup qualifiers.

The matches were the first time Salah had represented his country since injuring his hamstring during the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year. Five months on, he assisted their opening goal in a 2-1 win over Burkina Faso and then scored an equaliser away against Guinea-Bissau.

Since then, Salah has had a month and a half off, during which time he celebrated his 32nd birthday. His 'cake' was composed of bowls of ice and various fresh fruit.

Now, nine days later, Salah has shown that the celebrations are over, and he is in the gym this summer. Wearing a white tank top and matching shorts, he shared a mirror selfie, showing off his shaved head, standing in front of the weight rack inside the impressive-looking facility.

Returning to the gym so soon potentially hints that Salah may be preparing to play for Egypt at the Summer Olympic Games later next month as an overage player. The football tournament is restricted to players born on or after 1 January 2001, but a maximum of three players over 23 can compete.

The country's Olympic football coach, Rogerio Micale, made known earlier this month that "there is no doubt Mohamed Salah will be one of our options," (via Ahram Online). Play in Paris begins on 24 July and continues in August for teams progressing from the group stage. However, Liverpool can refuse to release Salah for the tournament because they are not obliged to let him play.
