MORTON boss Dougie Imrie has spoken of his 'delight' at snapping up a former Rangers winger after admitting that the player has been on his radar for years.

Arron Lyall becomes the latest summer signing for the Cappielow side after penning a one-year deal following the expiration of his contract at Rangers.

The 20-year-old - a product of the Ibrox club's youth academy - faced the Ton in the Championship last season while on loan at Airdrieonians, playing 18 times and scoring twice as the Diamonds made it to the Premiership play-offs.

Manager Imrie said: “Arron is an extremely promising young player that has bags of ability and potential.

"He gained valuable experience in the Championship last season and his playstyle is one that will get fans excited when he plays.

"I’m delighted that he has agreed to become a Greenock Morton player.”

He added: "I’ve been tracking Arron for a number of years now and I’m delighted to finally secure his signature.”

Lyall, who has joined up with new teammates ahead of Morton's first pre-season match against Queen of the South this coming Saturday, was named the Rangers Academy Player of the Year in 2022/23 and also spent time on loan at Inverness Caledonian Thistle in 2021.

He joins fellow new signings Lamar Reynolds, Owen Moffat, Jordan Davies and Cammy Ballantyne in the squad for the 2024/25 campaign.
