Jose Mourinho is losing his grip on second place following a poor spell of form
Jose Mourinho is losing his grip on second place following a poor spell of form

Saturday

Man City 5-1 Leicester

An Aguero-inspired battering led City 16 points clear at the top of the league despite Jamie Vardy continuing his four-game goal streak.

Aguero’s four goals grabbed the headlines, but Kevin De Bruyne’s hat trick of assists proved once again why he is one of the hottest talents in Europe and fantasy football.

Tottenham 1-0 Arsenal

Spurs extended the gap from their North London rivals to seven points with another big performance to prove they’re becoming a big-game team.

Harry Kane scored his 25th of the season, but nobody expects him to stop there and you shouldn’t either, so if you’ve refused to give in to the hype, now may be time.

Everton 3-1 Crystal Palace

A second half goal fest saw Everton distance themselves from the relegation battle and force Palace ever closer to the drop zone.

Both sides are out of the FA Cup and so will have two weeks of rest before the next gameweek, so expect them to be refreshed for the business end of the season.

Yahoo star man: Oumar Niasse (17.20pts)

Stoke 1-1 Brighton

The Potters couldn’t find the winning goal after strikes from in-form Xherdan Shaqiri and Jose Izquierdo left the game at a stalemate.

Stoke remain in 19th but they’re playing well below their maximum capabilities, so keep an eye out for an unlikely up-turn in form when the panic deepens.

Yahoo star man: Jose Izquierdo (18.90pts)

Swansea 1-0 Burnley

The Swans made it 14 points from seven games by beating a Burnley side now without a win since December.

Burnley’s early-season form has meant they’re safe from the drop, but games against the relegation-threatened bottom half with more to fight for will now be tough.

Yahoo star man: Ki Sung-yueng (18.40pts)

West Ham 2-0 Watford

West Ham’s Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic put the home side level on points with their 11th-placed opposition.

Hernandez has now scored two goals in two and could pick up the form everyone knows he’s capable of, so keep an eye on the forward costing £15 on Yahoo.

Yahoo star man: Adrian (16pts)

Sunday

Newcastle 1-0 Man United

United couldn’t find a way past a resilient Magpies defence leaving them 16 points off the leaders and in a top-four race.

While Mourinho’s stars failed to live up to their hefty Yahoo price tags, Newcastle’s clean-sheet could be a nudge towards picking their defenders at home in future.

Yahoo star man: Martin Dubravka (14.50pts)

Huddersfield 4-1 Bournemouth

Huddersfield saw off Bournemouth to earn their first win in eight and climb out of the relegation zone at the expense of their opponents.

Stevie Mounie shone, contributing a goal, an assist and a shot that led to an own goal, so it may be worth putting faith in him during the relegation-dogfight fixtures.

Southampton 0-2 Liverpool

Two frightening link-ups between Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah left the Saints in the bottom three with just one win in 14.

Firmino (£24 on Yahoo) and Salah (£26) are pricey picks, but they appear to be producing the goods week in, week out, so take advantage of their consistency.

Monday

Chelsea 3-0 West Brom

The under-pressure Blues made light work of West Brom with two Eden Hazard goals bookending Moses’ strike that sealed an easy night at the office.

West Brom look void of survival hope, but Chelsea have a top-four battle on their hands, so back their players to step up again against United on February 25.
