Jose Mourinho will ask Luke Shaw if he is ready to play against Watford after he suffered concussion against Spain last Saturday.

Shaw collided with Dani Carvajal last week playing for England, and needed oxygen and a stretcher to leave the pitch part way through the second half of the Nations League game.

The England left-back did not play against Switzerland and returned to Manchester on Monday.

According to FA guidelines, a player who suffered concussion should not feature for a club for two weeks. However, if a club has ‘enhanced care settings’ then that period can be reduced to seven days.

Regulations require that seven criteria are met to gain the exemption, and United’s medical facilities meet those seven statutes.

Mourinho told a press conference on Friday afternoon that Shaw would thus be able to feature against Watford if he chose, and if medical advice allowed.

“I don’t know – we still have a training session,” said Mourinho.

“Contrary to some news, to some opinions, by the protocol point of view and according to our doctor, he will be free to play.

“The only situation we have to analyse is if you are going to play him when, during the week, he was not training with the team or if, even, he decides to play”.
