MS Dhoni Is The Biggest Factor For CSK Always Being A Strong Side On The Field In IPL, Says Faf Du Plessis
South African cricketer Faf du Plessis feels that MS Dhoni is the leading factor behind Chennai Super Kings’ success in the Indian Premier League over the years. Faf du Plessis, who plays for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL, is currently in West Indies for Caribbean Premier League 2021 (CPL 2021). The right-handed batsman is set to lead St Lucia Kings in CPL 2021, which went underway on August 26 (Thursday).
Faf du Plessis was seriously injured during Pakistan Super League (PSL 2021) after facing a head collision with another teammate while fielding. He was concussed after the incident and took a long time to recover. Now, the South African star is set to feature in CPL 2021. Post the tournament, he will also play for MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021 in UAE.
MS Dhoni Is Probably The Most Influential Captain: Faf Du Plessis
Speaking to Sportstar, the 37-year-old Proteas cricketer termed MS Dhoni as probably the most influential captain. He also credited CSK’s success in IPL over the years to MS Dhoni’s powerful leadership. Since its debut season in 2008, MS Dhoni has led CSK in IPL. The team has won 3 titles and reached the playoffs 10 times of the 11 they played.
“CSK always had a strong side on the cricket field. They always looked at getting good leaders. At one stage, they had four international captains playing for CSK. They rely on a lot of smart cricketers, and mixing that with the experience of playing under MS Dhoni is the biggest factor.
“He is probably the most influential captain in the game. The last 10 years have been good for me, extremely grateful for the learning I had,” he said.
Plessis also said that CSK is a better-balanced squad in IPL 2021 from the previous season.
“We have played good cricket; hopefully, the form will continue. I had a strong first half, and I hope to continue from where I left off [in India]. We are a better-balanced squad from the previous season,” he further added.
Faf du Plessis scored 320 runs for Chennai Super Kings in 7 matches in the 1st half of IPL 2021, emerging as the top-run getter for the team. With 5 victories in 7 games, Chennai Super Kings has managed to grab the 2nd spot in the points table. IPL 2021 will witness its second leg in UAE in September-October this year, with the first match set to be played between CSK and Mumbai India on September 19.
