Muller safely through in Belgrade

Eighth seed Gilles Muller made it through to the second round of the ATP Belgrade Open courtesy of a 6-0 4-6 6-3 victory over Lukas Lacko.

Muller defeated his Slovakian opponent as a host of other seeds fell in Serbia.

Fabio Fognini, seeded sixth, lost 6-1 6-4 to Benoit Paire, while seventh seed Ryan Harrison was defeated 6-3 6-3 by Brazil's Joao Souza.

Fifth seed Lukasz Kubot fell 7-5 6-2 to Lukas Rosol of Czech Republic.

Victor Hanescu did make it through to the second round though, the Romanian beating Spain's Carlos Gomez 6-2 5-7 6-3.
