Must-see sports moments of the week: Barca youth player scores unbelievable goal

There were plenty of eye-catching sporting moments from the past week, including a Barcelona footballer (no, not that one) scoring a goal of the highest order and an incredibly bizarre interview by a Japanese snooker player. Yahoo Singapore picks out a selection.

Jordi Mboula – remember this name.

The 17-year-old forward currently plays for the Barcelona youth team, but judging from his performance in a UEFA Youth League match on Wednesday against Borussia Dortmund, it might not be long before he breaks into the senior squad.

Mboula, a Spaniard, scored a goal that even Lionel Messi would be proud of.

Picking up the ball down on the right wing, he brilliantly turned his marker around before embarking on a lung-bursting run. After entering the penalty area, it looked like he had nowhere to go with two defenders blocking him off, but produced some nifty footwork to go past both before scoring with a emphatic finish.

There is no doubt that it is a goal of the highest order. Take a bow, Mboula.

Angry reactions to red cards are probably norms in football, but over the weekend, one player took it to a new level.

Mitch Rose, brother of Tottenham Hotspurs’ Danny Rose, lost his mind when he was given his marching orders in a League Two match between his team Newport County and Cambridge United.

The 22-year-old conceded a penalty in the last minute that led to the winning goal of the game. And when he was shown the red by referee Mark Heywood for the foul, Rose smacked the card out of Heywood’s hands in anger before stomping away.

Rose’s behaviour was shocking, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the midfielder gets slapped with a longer suspension by the Football Association.

How to defend a fast-break? Lie on the floor, of course

NBA MVP Steph Curry – who is not exactly known for his defence – has shown everyone the worst way to defend a fast break during the annual NBA All-Star game on Monday.

We know the All-Star event is about entertainment rather than playing defence, so perhaps Curry was proving a point.

Ffinding himself in a four-on-one situation, the point guard lay completely flat on the floor instead of attempting to stop Giannis Antetokounmpo, leaving the Greek Freak with an easy dunk.

The ‘play’ drew plenty of laughter. But Curry would get posterised anyway.

Minutes later in the same quarter, an unsuspecting Curry was attempting to get the rebound off a missed shot from the Eastern Conference’s Paul George, when the Greek Freak came from nowhere to slam the rebound in viciously.

Curry’s teammate Draymond Green was left in disbelief, while the East bench, specifically Carmelo Anthony, couldn’t believe it either.

Perhaps Curry should have stayed on the ground after all.

Most bizarre interview ever?

If you haven’t seen this interview with Japanese pool player Naoyuki Oi, you should really drop everything and watch it right now.

Oi, after advancing into the quarter-finals of the World Pool Masters in Gibraltar over the weekend, was interviewed in English. The only problem was that Oi’s command of English isn’t the best.

Still, that didn’t deter Oi from speaking, and the result is bizarre and hilarious at the same time. Clearly, he’s not lacking in any confidence.

It was not just his answers, which included the lines “I have a pen, I have an apple”. It was also about his incredible facial expressions, which left his interviewer struggling to contain his laughter.
