England will head to Edinburgh for Saturday’s NatWest Six Nations Championship game against Scotland with a tried and trusted line-up after Eddie Jones named a 29-man squad that included Wasps’ No 8 Nathan Hughes, who is expected to slot straight back into the team after his ahead-of-schedule recovery from a knee injury.

Hughes played a full part in last week’s testing training camp that was designed to get him back up to speed after six weeks on the sidelines.

In the absence of Exeter Chiefs back-row forward, Sam Simmonds, who will miss the next two rounds of the tournament with a shoulder problem, Hughes is a ready-made fit.

There is also a return to action for Harlequins loosehead, Joe Marler, who was ruled out for the games against Italy and Wales through serving a six-week suspension as was Wasps’ back-row forward, James Haskell, who was banned for four weeks following a dangerous tackle on Quins’ centre, Jamie Roberts.

Both men are in included with Marler set to come in on the replacement bench as the finishing prop behind Mako Vunipola.

Owen Farrell played little or no part in training last week after picking up bumps and bruises against Wales in which he played a starring role.

There is no indication that he will not be ready to resume where he left off at Twickenham with Jones' selection issues focussing on the blend of the back-row and the choice at outside centre.

Ben Te’o wore the No 13 shirt against Italy at the Stadio Olimpico and showed up well despite only just coming back from injury but Jonathan Joseph was selected ahead of him for the Wales game.

In the back-row, Jones has to decide who will start on the flanks with Sam Underhill’s wonder tackle on Wales centre, Scott Williams, helping press his claims for the openside berth.
