Neil Magny vs. Demian Maia On Tap for UFC 190

Lorenz Larkin Steps in for Short-Notice Fight with Neil Magny at UFC 202

A welterweight bout between Neil Magny and Demian Maia is on tap for UFC 190, which is slated for Aug. 1 in Rio de Janeiro.

The bout was first reported by Tatame.com and later confirmed by UFC Senior Vice President and General Manager of Brazil Giovani Luis Decker.

Magny (15-3) has been streaking up the welterweight division, winning seven consecutive bouts in the past year and a half. He most recently stopped Hyun Gyu Lim in May, but Maia easily represents his biggest opportunity to date.

Currently sitting at No. 12 in the UFC 170-pound rankings, Magny would take a huge leap up the division with a win over Maia, who is currently ranked No. 6 in the weight class.

Maia (20-6) is no easy task, however, having once challenged Anderson Silva for the UFC middleweight championship.

Though he stumbled in back-to-back losses to Jake Shields and Rory MacDonald, Maia has recently returned to his winning ways. He has won consecutive bouts against Alexander Yakovlev and Ryan LaFlare over the past year.

A win over Magny could be the spark that Maia needs to start another run towards title contention.

UFC 190 features the next title defense of UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, as she puts her belt on the line against Bethe Correia on the Brazilian's home turf.
