Derry Girls fans have been left confused after Netflix removed the second season of the show from the platform just four days after it was added.

The second series of the hit Northern Irish comedy arrived on Netflix UK on July 9, but has now vanished from the platform.

In a statement issued on their official Twitter account, Netflix stated they had jumped the gun and uploaded the show too early.

“UPDATE: it looks like we were a bit early with this one so have had to take season two down for now,” they announced.

“We'll let you know when it's coming back as soon as we can. In the meantime, it's available now on All 4.”

Fans have since expressed their frustration at the new season’s retraction on social media.

One person wrote: “Netflix taking off derry girls bc they were too early?? so u purposely put it up early and then took it off like what??”

“Omg I was literally about to start watching Derry Girls S2 and it got removed from Netflix because they apparently put it up too early lmao.

“Well I shall not be logging into All4 to watch the same car advert 8 times for it, I can tell you that much," wrote another.

Netflix had previously announced the new season’s arrival last week by tweeting: “Derry Girls S2 is now on Netflix if you were looking for an excuse to watch it again.”

The second season of Derry Girls initially aired on Channel 4 in March 2019.

Production on a third season was due to begin this year, but was halted due to the coronavirus lockdown.
