Newcastle breakthrough after transfer scramble & shock Anthony Gordon developments

YANKUBA MINTEH'S wish to stay in the Premier League is to be granted after Brighton agreed a £33m deal to sign the winger - easing Newcastle's concerns amid a frantic transfer scramble to generate cash ahead of Sunday's mini deadline day.

The Magpies needed to raise funds ahead of the June 30 profit and sustainability rules deadline and reluctantly accepted that the sale of Minteh - who has never made an appearance in black and white - would secure much-needed income.

After a move to Lyon broke down earlier this week, Minteh's future and Newcastle's situation was up in the air, but after a frantic day of dealing the Seagulls and United came to an agreement for the 19-year-old.

Minteh headed for the UK from Gambia and talks with Brighton were taking place on Saturday night, but there are not expected to be any complications.

A string of other Premier League clubs were keeping tabs on Minteh's situation and it emerged earlier on Saturday that talks had taken place with Nottingham Forest. There's also been separate talk of a deal with Forest that would have seen Elliot Anderson heading for the City Ground and the Magpies signing Antony Elanga in a separate deal.

While Minteh's exit will significantly aid Newcastle's cause, the Magpies may yet have to push through the sale of another player - but will hope they can now keep hold of star men Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon.

That's despite the shock emergence on Saturday that talks have taken place with Liverpool, who want to take Gordon back to Merseyside this summer. It's not clear at this stage whether Newcastle will now be in a position where they can keep Gordon or whether Liverpool will return to the table.

While there remains a lot of uncertainty, Minteh's move to Brighton is now expected to go through.

He'll leave 12 months on from joining the Magpies from Odense. He impressed last season on loan at Feyenoord, where he scored 10 goals in 27 league games.
