NEWCASTLE UNITED have ended their interest in Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Senior Magpies officials have held a number of discussions over Calvert-Lewin as they look to complete some transfer activity ahead of the accountancy deadline for the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations at the end of this month.

They had been preparing a formal offer for the England international, but the latest round of talks have led them to believe that an agreement over a fee would not be possible with Everton reportedly holding out for more than £35m.

As a result, they have opted to walk away from discussions and will look elsewhere as they look to strengthen their attacking ranks.

With Newcastle no longer interested in Calvert-Lewin, Everton have also shelved their interest in Magpies winger Yankuba Minteh.

As reported by The Northern Echo this morning, French club Lyon are now leading the chase for Minteh, who spent last season on loan at Feyenoord.

Having bought Minteh from Odense for an initial fee of around £6.5m last summer, Newcastle are hoping to sell the 19-year-old winger for around £40m this month.
