NEWCASTLE'S Anthony Gordon was wounded after falling off a bike in Germany but trained as planned on Thursday and is in England contention ahead of Sunday's last 16 clash against Slovakia.

Gordon was pictured with a nasty cut to his chin, damage to his hands and a plaster on his leg in training at England's base today after his accident during some downtime when the players went for a ride on some country paths around the resort.

But he was still able to complete the full training session and is hoping to play a part on Sunday after his encouraging cameo from the bench in Tuesday's 0-0 draw with Slovenia.

There's growing clamour for the Newcastle forward and Chelsea's Cole Palmer to be used by Gareth Southgate in the knockout stages after an underwhelming group campaign.

Gordon's late introduction from the bench against Slovenia was his first taste of the tournament so far, despite his excellent form for Newcastle last term and the fact Southgate's forward line has failed to click so far in Germany.

Gordon's Newcastle teammate Kieran Trippier trained away from the main group today, with the full-back instead working on what the FA described as a "individual programme". Arsenal's Declan Rice did the same.

Trippier has started all three games so far at left-back, though was replaced late on against Slovenia. Southgate could have a decision to make at left-back on Sunday with Luke Shaw having again trained with the the group. The Manchester United defender indicated earlier this week that he'd be fit for the last 16 clash after his hamstring injury.
