NEWPORT City will play in Cymru South next season after a 2-0 promotion play-off win against Cefn Cribwr.

The Steelmen made it a season to remember by making it a double, heading up from Ardal SE after lifting the FAW Amateur Trophy in April.

Sam Houldsworth’s side earned a spot in the play-offs after finishing as runners-up to Trethomas Bluebirds in the league.

They finished the campaign impressively to keep the heat on the champions and took that form into the play-off with Ardal SW runners-up Cefn Cribwr at Penybont FC.

Newport hit the front through Kofi Rowe in the 17th minute then Cole Jarvis doubled the advantage five minutes later.

The Steelmen missed a chance to take total control in the 66th minute when Calum Bateman missed from the spot.

They regretted that when Ioan Clatworthy gave the Bridgend side, who pushed them all the way in the Trophy semi-final, a lifeline in the 87th minute.

There were six minutes of added time but Newport held on and will be playing Cymru South football when next season gets under way on the last weekend of July.
