NHL-Highlights of Saturday's NHL games

Jan 16 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Saturday's National Hockey League games. - - Sharks 4, Stars 3 (overtime) Tomas Hertl scored 1:12 into overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 4-3 win over the Dallas Stars at SAP Center. San Jose stretched their winning streak to five. Marc-Edouard Vlasic assisted on Hertl's winner after scoring two goals in the game for the first time in his career. - - Rangers 3, Flyers 2 (shootout) New York goaltender Henrik Lundqvist continued his storied career against the Philadelphia Flyers by lifting the Rangers to a 3-2 shootout win at Wells Fargo Center. Lundqvist was sensational -- especially in overtime -- and stopped all three shots in the shootout. Mats Zuccarello won it for the Rangers (24-15-5) with the only goal in the shootout. - - Senators 5, Kings 3 Mike Zibanejad and Bobby Ryan each had a goal and an assist as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Los Angeles Kings 5-3. Ottawa (21-18-6) climbed to within one point of the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. Goaltender Craig Anderson stopped 30 Los Angeles shots for the win. - - Sabres 4, Capitals 1 Four Buffalo players scored to lead the Sabres to a 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals. Phil Varone, Tim Schaller, Evander Kane and Cody Franson had goals for Buffalo (18-23-4), while goalie Chad Johnson made 33 saves. Marcus Johansson scored for the Capitals (33-8-3), whose five-game win streak came to an end. - - Blue Jackets 2, Avalanche 1 Jack Johnson scored on a fluttering, redirected wrist shot with 1:07 remaining to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche at Nationwide Arena. Seconds earlier, Avalanche goaltender Calvin Pickard made a brilliant stop on Blue Jackets left winger Brandon Saad. - - Devils 2, Coyotes 0 Ryan Boucher and Kyle Palmieri scored and Cory Schneider posted his fourth shutout of the season in the Devils' 2-0 victory over the Arizona Coyotes at Gila River Arena. Boucher scored his first goal of the season in the first period and Palmieri got his 18th just 18 seconds into the third to support Schneider, who made 38 saves. - - Blues 4, Canadiens 3 (overtime) Jori Lehtera scored 2:04 into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens. Blues goalie Brian Elliott made a career-high 46 saves. The 49 shots were a season high against the Blues. - - Bruins 3, Maple Leafs 2 Brad Marchand scored with 47 seconds left to give the Boston Bruins a 3-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at TD Garden. Marchand, who had a goal erased earlier in the third period on a coach's challenge, snapped a loose puck home from the left wing, beating Toronto goaltender Jonathan Bernier high to the glove side. It was the 16th goal of the season for the Bruins' winger, and his first in 11 games played. - - Predators 3, Wild 0 Needing a lift in the worst way, the Nashville Predators turned to their backup goalie to end their five-game losing streak and Carter Hutton did not let them down. Hutton made 29 saves in the third shutout of his career as Nashville beat the slumping Minnesota Wild 3-0 at sold-out Bridgestone Arena. - - Oilers 2, Flames 1 (shootout) Teddy Purcell scored the winner in the shootout as the Edmonton Oilers snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames. Mark Fayne scored in regulation for the Oilers (18-23-5), who had lost their previous seven games at home to Calgary. Sam Bennett had the goal for the Flames (20-20-3), who have lost three of their last four games. (Editing by Peter Rutherford)
