NHL Three Stars: Gibson shuts down Canadiens; Sabres win in Eichel's return

No. 1 Star: John Gibson, Anaheim Ducks

The netminder stopped 39 of 40 shots on goal in a 2-1 win over the NHL leading Montreal Canadiens. With the victory, Gibson moved to 7-7-3 on the season. His 39 saves tied a career high set on March 1, 2015 against the Dallas Stars. Tuesday was also Gibson bobblehead night at Honda Center. After losing three games in a row, the Ducks have won their last two.

No. 2 Star: Ryan O’Reilly, Buffalo Sabres

The Sabres’ star center scored two goals and added an assist in a 5-4 victory over the Ottawa Senators. In his previous six games O’Reilly had just one point. The five goals by the Sabres were their second-highest total of the season. They scored six goals in a win over the Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 16.

No. 3 Star: Mike Hoffman, Ottawa Senators

Hoffman scored his first career NHL hat trick and added an assist in the loss to the Sabres. The defeat broke a four-game winning streak where the Senators had allowed just five goals total. After Tuesday’s game, Hoffman has seven goals and 16 points in 21 games played.
