The NHS is set to offer wellbeing sessions for Bury supporters struggling with “emotional distress or upset” following the club’s expulsion from the English Football League.

Bury Healthy Minds, run by the Pennine Care NHS Trust, have said they will offer a “safe space to reflect on emotions” after Bury’s 125-year membership with the EFL came to an end in August.

Liz Woodings, Bury Health Minds service manager explained that it is normal for Bury fans to feel upset following the demise of the Shakers.

Woodings said: “With Bury FC playing such a big role in many people’s lives, strong emotional reactions are completely understandable.

“It’s normal to feel very upset in circumstances like this because it’s such a big loss to our local community and identity.

"It’s important to take the time to look after yourself when you’re feeling down or struggling with feelings of grief or loss.”

The Healthy Minds team has also posted information on their website for supporters dealing with the Lancashire club’s removal from League One.

Tips include sharing feelings, finding tribe with other supporters, avoiding drugs and alcohol, getting enough sleep and avoiding too much time on social media.

The sessions will take place at the Peel Room, Elizabethan Suite, Bury Town Hall on Friday 6th September between 10:30am - 12pm.
