Spain and Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams has responded amid increasing transfer speculation involving Liverpool and several other clubs as he continues to impress while playing for his country at Euro 2024.

But as interest in his signature mounts, the 21-year-old left winger has insisted that he is happy with La Liga side Athletic Club. Both Liverpool and Barcelona have been linked with moves for Williams with Caught Offside suggesting earlier today that Arne Slot had given the green light for sporting director Richard Hughes to make a move.

Nevertheless, Williams has sought to play down rumors that he could move on. The forward's contract contains a release clause that means he can move for a fee of around $62m (£49m/€58m).

"I’ve just signed new deal at Athletic few weeks ago," Williams has said. "I feel very good there. I’m very happy at Athletic. It’s very strange to receive questions on my future."

While adding another attacker should be on the agenda for Liverpool this summer, buying another player who favors the left flank may only be necessary if Luis Diaz moves on. The Colombian has been linked with a move to Barcelona, too, as the Spanish side looks to strengthen under new boss Hansi Flick.

Speaking at a press conference earlier this week, Williams said: "I’m very happy at Athletic. It’s the club that has given me everything, the one that has bet on me 100 per cent. It’s my home. I’m very happy.

"And what I want to do is focus on the European Championship 100 per cent. Otherwise, I don’t know what’s going to happen. I have told my agent that I don’t want to know anything until the end of the European Championship."

Liverpool.com says: Williams has been one of the standout players at Euro 2024 so far but there will be plenty of competition for his signature if there is any indication that he might be open to a move. Liverpool probably has other priorities for now, though things can change very quickly in the market. If he did come to Anfield, on the evidence of his performances in Germany, it would be an exciting move. At 21, he still very much has his best years ahead of him too.
