New Ipswich Town signing Ben Johnson knows that his new club will face a big step-up in the Premier League, but believes that they’ll embrace the challenge.

The 24-year-old has a good amount of top-flight experience, making 69 league appearances during his time at West Ham.

He also helped them win the Europa Conference League in 2022/23 while playing a part in last season’s run to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Even if he hasn’t been a regular, Johnson has played at that level since the very start of his career, making his debut at Manchester City in February 2019.

Funnily enough, that’s who Town will face in their first away game of next season, so he knows just how difficult it’ll be for them.

“You know what you’re going to expect, everyone knows what City are like,” he said via Town TV.

“We’re not going to be fazed because you want to play in the Premier League to play against the best, you want to test yourself.

“There’s no need to be scared or inferior of those teams. It’s probably great that we’re playing Liverpool in the first game and Man City in the next because this is why we’re in the Premier League, this is why we work so hard day in, day out to be in the top division.

“You know what you’re going to expect and I’m sure we’ll have a game plan for that. We’re going to enjoy it.”
