North East football fans can claim a free poncho and a pint in a Newcastle pub as England take on Slovakia at the Euros.

The WonderBar at The Gate, Newcastle is ensuring punters stay dry with the 'Pint-cho', a beer-resistant poncho designed by Amsterdam's Rainkiss as part of a marketing campaign by drinks company Heineken.

Available in green and retro football shirt white, the 'Pint-cho' is constructed from 100 per cent recycled polyester with each one made from 20 recycled bottles.

Heineken marketing manager, Stephanie Dexter said; "For decades, Heineken has not only celebrated football fans but also championed the glorious, crisp pint and all its beauty.

"However, when these worlds collide during national tournaments, it can be dangerous for your beer…and your outfit.

"So this summer we’ve intervened.

"The Pint-cho is fully beer resistant, it looks great and is a serious fashion statement.

"Beer will inevitably be spilt in pubs and pub gardens on Sunday.

"But it’s okay. Fans can style it out in a Pint-cho."

And if fans spill their drink because of England, they'll be given a free pint of Heineken or Heineken 0.0.

The 'HeineCare' beer redemption scheme is simple - if you've suffered an accidental spill, scan a QR code found on beer mats and posters in the pub, fill in some details on the 'HeineCare' homepage and you'll receive a voucher for a replacement pint.

A limited number of 'Pint-chos' are available free in participating pubs and fans can also win one via Heineken UK’s Instagram.
