BCCI president Sourav Ganguly complimented the Indian cricket team for its spirited fight throughout the year.

Despite being bowled out for 191 in the first innings, India set England a target of 368 after opener Rohit Sharma hit a splendorous hundred in support of Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored 61. All-rounder Shardul Thakur (60) and wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant (50) propelled India’s score 466.

This was a good show of performance from the Indian side after they were hammered by England with an innings and 76 runs defeat in Leeds. Ganguly said that Cricket is at its best and applauded India’s performance so far in the series.

“Cricket at its best. Nothing can beat a well-fought test series. The one in Australia and now this one. The most skillful form of cricket ..@BCCI @ICC,” Ganguly wrote on his official Twitter handle.

India stunned Australia in their own backyard

Earlier this year India did something unexpected when they retained the Border-Gavaskar trophy against Australia Down Under responding to all the challenges and adversity thrown towards them.

First India was humiliated by Australia in Adelaide where the team’s innings was folded up on 36 and then regular captain Virat Kohli was unavailable for the remaining three Test matches.

In that period, Ajinkya Rahane took the reins from Kohli and led India with a marvelous hundred in Melbourne to level the series 1-1 before they drew in Syndey and pulled off a thriller in Brisbane in a historic chase of 329.

If Kohli’s absence was not enough then the Indian side suffered additional blows of various injuries with most of the core players were benched at the time of the final Test. But it was the same time when India discovered many new unknown heroes like Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj, and of course not to forget the animated Pant.

As of now, India needs to bowl out India to win the fourth Test on the final day and take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
