Nuno Espirito Santo says he did not speak to Harry Kane, or any Tottenham player competing at Euro 2020, as it would have been “disrespectful” to do so during the tournament.

Nuno has taken charge at Spurs and one of his first tasks will be convincing Kane to stay in north London.

The England captain is a target for Manchester City, while Chelsea and Manchester United are also keen on him.

Nuno is yet to hold talks with Kane and he has explained he did not want to speak to the striker while he was playing in the Euros.

“I didn’t speak to none of the players that were with the national teams, no one,” he said.

“Because I believe that if I was on the other side, it would be disrespectful I think.

“When the player is with the national team, he should be focused on the national team. He has a hard job to do, totally committed to the national team of his home country.

“So this is why I decided to not speak to any one of them. I will speak when they arrive. Some of them have already joined us.

“This is the right moment [to speak]. In our own building, face to face, sitting down and to prepare our future together.”
