Ogbeta set to become free agent this summer after Swansea release

Nat Ogbeta will depart Swansea City this summer following the expiry of his contract with the Welsh club.

Ogbeta joined the Swans in 2022 after impressing at Shrewsbury but has only made three appearances at first-team level due to a run of bad injury luck.

The wing-back had a spell on loan at Peterborough in the 2022/23 campaign, playing 20 times before his time at London Road was cut short. He was forced to miss the play-off semi-final ties against Sheffield Wednesday.

Ogbeta joined the Whites on loan in January and has been regularly involved over the past few months, scoring on his debut in a 4-1 victory at Carlisle minutes after coming off the bench.

The 23-year-old had to build up his sharpness during his initial weeks at the Toughsheet Community Stadium following a lengthy lay-off but also managed to get on the scoresheet in the 5-0 win against Oxford in March.

He had a consistent run of starts towards the back end of the season but had to pull out of the squad against Port Vale with a thigh problem in the warm-up, which saw Randell Williams keep hold of the shirt for the play-off semi-final ties against Barnsley. Ogbeta came back into the side for the final at Wembley, with Williams sidelined by a knock suffered in training.

Swansea confirmed in the club’s annual retained list that the youngster will be departing this summer along with Lewis Webb, Ben Blythe, Josh Carey, Ruben Davies, Kian Jenkins, Kai Ludvigsen, Archie Matthews, Lincoln McFayden, Remy Mitchell, Joe Thomas, Charlie Veevers, Jack Cooper, Rohan Davies, Ewan Griffiths, Cameron Llewellyn.

An official statement read: “Everyone at Swansea City wishes all departing players every success in their future careers.”

The Swans finished 14th in the Championship under Luke Williams, who took charge in January after guiding Notts County back into the Football League.

Last month, Ogbeta told The Bolton News: “My contract is running up at Swansea but I am excited to see what the future holds. Just being here has been such a catalyst.

"You have down times with injuries, but there are always better times ahead and I feel like I am experiencing that now being able to experience such a great team, great support, great staff and players. I am really enjoying my football at the moment.”
