Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants maximum points to send Manchester United into Champions League spots
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says his team may need maximum points from their remaining games to ensure they get Champions League qualification for next season.
The Red Devils are currently fifth in the table, four points behind Leicester City but with a game in hand—and they travel to the King Power Stadium on the last day of the season.
Fifth might be enough for a spot in the top European competition, if rivals Manchester City do not have their ban overturned, but Solskjaer doesn’t want his team needing favours.
“You never know what is going to happen, but the teams around us are playing well,” Solskjaer said at his pre-match press conference.
“We just focus on this one, the next one. If we win every single one of them, we are in the top four.
“We cannot rely on help from anyone else, we just have to do it ourselves.”
United have been on a good run, unbeaten in all competitions since a 2-0 home reversal to Burnley, but the manager is looking far beyond this point, with the standards he wishes to set at the club striving to reach those set while he was a player.
“The last 16 games unbeaten gives us more confidence, but 16 games is nowhere near where a Manchester United team should strive towards.
“We can still go many games unbeaten if we concentrate on the right things.”
