Olise signs, Gallagher decision, Chalobah exit - Deals Chelsea must complete in transfer window

It's a big summer for Chelsea. The Blues have made a huge decision to replace Mauricio Pochettino with Enzo Maresca, and face a number of choices in the transfer window.

Pressure over finances does not seem as high as it may have been - but there are a number of players who could move on from Stamford Bridge and raise some more money to provide further room to manoeuvre in terms of bringing new players into west London.

After Thiago Silva's exit on a free transfer, there are still questions over the future of Trevoh Chalobah in defence, as well as Conor Gallagher, Ian Maatsen, Omari Hutchinson and Armando Broja among others, with Lewis Hall set to depart on a permanent deal to Newcastle.

Despite the large amount of arrivals over the last two years at Stamford Bridge, the club are unsurprisingly being linked with more after struggling before an end-of-season run saw them move up to sixth in the league.

The likes of Michael Olise are strongly linked with a transfer, while Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has also been eyed for a move. But what deals do the Blues have to get over the line before the summer transfer window closes?

Personally, I would not sell Trevoh Chalobah but the signs suggest Chelsea disagree. The club are open to selling the 24-year-old this summer and if he does leave, then the Blues need to go out and get another central defender, no doubt.

Give Conor Gallagher a new contract. That is the logical thing to do. Gallagher divides opinion and so will this comment, but: He was one of Chelsea's best players last season. So why go and sell him now?

I would look to get a right winger in and Michael Olise, for me, is the outstanding candidate. He enjoyed a sparkling season at Crystal Palace. Olise is just one of those footballers people will pay to watch, week in and week out.

A new striker is needed as well. I like Jhon Duran. From what I saw of him last season at Aston Villa, he looks a real handful. But is a 20-year-old the right profile to ease the burden on Nicolas Jackson? I'm unsure.

For me, Conor Gallagher has to sign a new deal. He's been so important to the team, and with only a year left on his current deal they won't be getting his true value this summer if he does leave.

Funds do probably need to be raised, though, and with Lewis Hall's permanent deal to Newcastle set to go through, I'd add Armando Broja and Ian Maatsen to the list of outgoings if they can agree a decent fee. That could earn some much-needed wiggle room to bring in a top player.

That player should be Michael Olise. He's a step above the current options for right wing if you see Cole Palmer's future through the middle. Despite a hamstring issue that dogged him last season, I think he's worth the money Chelsea would have to pay for him.

If it was up to me I would offer Conor Gallagher a new contract. But Chelsea have proven in recent years they are not afraid to go against the grain and this is why I expect Gallagher to be sold. The Blues can fetch around £50million with the likes of Tottenham and Aston Villa interested.

If Gallagher does leave, a replacement needs to be found. I like both Adam Wharton and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Wharton impressed at Crystal Palace last season, so much so that he forced his way into Gareth Southgate's England squad at Euro 2024, while Dewsbury-Hall worked with Enzo Maresca at Leicester.

Another player who I would sign is Ivan Toney. I'm not convinced by Jhon Duran and Toney, it appears, could be available for a similar price. The Brentford man offers plenty of Premier League experience and would go straight into the Chelsea starting XI.

In terms of exits, Malang Sarr, Armando Broja and Romelu Lukaku all need to be moved on this summer. Ian Maatsen could also leave and bring in a decent fee while a loan move for Deivid Washington may also be sensible.

Signing more experienced players seems the most sensible next step for Chelsea - especially after Thiago Silva's departure. However, the players being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer don't fit that profile.

Michael Olise could be the easiest deal to complete due to his release clause. However, after turning down a move to Chelsea last summer, would they risk the same thing happening again? You also have to question whether Olise really wants to go there as well.

Ultimately, a new striker is what could take the Blues to the next level. Nicolas Jackson lacks a killer instinct in front of goal and is unlikely to get Chelsea back into the Champions League.

With Benjamin Sesko set to stay at RB Leipzig, there aren't any clear options. But if they can stump up the money, then Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy would be a decent signing. Convincing the 28-year-old to leave a Champions League club will be difficult though.
