Patrick Vieira refuses to be drawn on speculation he will replace Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager

Patrick Vieira has refused to be drawn on the speculation surrounding him replacing Arsene Wenger as the next manager of Arsenal.

The club’s former captain is currently in charge of New York City, a sister club of Manchester City, and is viewed within the City group as the long-term successor to Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.

However, the day before Wenger’s departure was announced, the Frenchman suggested that his former midfielder would be an option to succeed him at the Emirates.

The Independent reported last week that Luis Enrique had held informal talks with Arsenal but Brendan Rodgers is another option – although he suggested he would stay at Celtic over the weekend.

And Vieira, who won three Premier League titles and three FA Cups with the Gunners, has echoed Rodgers’ stance by refusing to talk about the role at the Emirates.

“I just want to talk about the game, I don't want to talk about nothing else,” he said following the 3-0 defeat to Portland Timbers on Sunday. “I don't have any comment to make. I just want to talk about the game and nothing else.”
