National League South: Braintree Town 0-0 Taunton Town

TAUNTON Town earned another point towards their relegation survival in the National League South on Tuesday (April 9) evening.

The match, played away from home, ended 0-0 as promotion chasing Braintree Town were unable to break through Taunton's resolute defence.

It was a decent result for Town against the Essex play-off participants, but it could have been even better with Taunton missing a penalty after just ten minutes.

Dan Lavercombe was again in the squad for the Peacocks after his impressive performance at Hampton & Richmond.

The only change from Taunton's lineup for this match was Marcus Day returning to the starting eleven with Ben Acey missing the match. New signing Jay Murray was on the bench.

It was Day who created the first chance as he beat a man out wide before looking to cut back to Ollie Chamberlain but it came to nothing.

In the tenth minute the visitors were awarded a penalty after Nat Jarvis was brought down by Braintree keeper Jack Sims, but he made amends by saving Ross Stearn’s spot kick.

From this point, the first half played out largely in the middle of the pitch and ended 0-0 at the break.

It was more of the same in the second period, but with that being said it was Braintree who had the brighter spells as the game went on.

Peacocks’ keeper Dan Lavercombe made several fine saves as the game ended in stalemate and defender Lloyd James, along with the entire back line, showed they are willing to fight to keep their side in this division.

The result leaves Town in 22nd place as they now prepare for Thursday’s home match with Slough Town when a win is now even more vital.
