Chelsea are set to complete the signing of Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo.

The centre-back, 26, is said to have completed his medical with the Blues, and he'll be joining from their west London rivals on a free transfer. Adarabioyo is expected to become new head coach Enzo Maresca’s first signing after rejecting a new deal at Craven Cottage.

He will replace departing Chelsea hero Thiago Silva and potentially Trevoh Chalobah, who has been linked with Manchester United. Yet Adarabioyo is no stranger to being on the books at one of football's biggest clubs, having spent three seasons in Manchester City’s first team after coming through their academy.

He was coached by none other than Pep Guardiola between 2015 and 2018 before going out on loan to West Brom and Blackburn Rovers and eventually signing for Fulham in 2020. Guardiola spoke highly of the then-18-year-old back in August 2016, highlighting his various qualities and insisting he had a future in the first team.

The manager said: "One or two months ago, when we finished the season, I was sent a lot of highlights about the academy players; about Tosin, Brandon Barker, Bersant Celina, Manu Garcia and Aleix Garcia.

"We had an idea about them and trained with them all pre-season. Tosin has a lot of steps to get him better. It's not done, but he has all the quality.

"He is fast, he is faster than the people can believe it. He's strong in the air. He has the quality to look behind the line for the next step, the next pass, but he has a lot of things to improve and I hope I can help him to develop his skills.”

Adarabioyo made 132 appearances for Fulham over the past four seasons, including 20 in the Premier League last term as they finished 13th. He played 41 league matches in 2021/22, playing a pivotal role as Fulham won the Championship.
