Former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders, who left the club at the same time as Jurgen Klopp, could look back to his old side this summer as he takes on a new role.

Lijnders, 41, has been named as the new manager of Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga. After the former club of Erling Haaland and Dominik Szoboszlai fired its old boss for failing to win the title, the pressure is on for the Dutchman to win things immediately and of course play an exciting brand of soccer.

Salzburg failed to win the Austrian Bundesliga because Sturm Graz pipped it by two points. And a big part of the title victor's success was goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros who was on loan from Liverpool.

Lijnders has previously joked that Liverpool full-back Conor Bradley would be welcome to make the move with him, though that will not be happening. Former Reds head of fitness and conditioning Andreas Kornmayer will going with him, however.

And Jaros could make a lot of sense as a summer target. According to local outlet Salzburger Nachrichten, Jaros could now be a candidate to join Salzburg following the release of Timo Horn. The 22-year-old, who is currently at the European Championship with the Czech Republic, is 'highly sought after' by Lijnders.

There could be a lot of change in the goalkeeping department this summer. Goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has already moved on to join Steven Gerrard in Saudi Arabia while Caoimhin Kelleher has expressed a desire to be guaranteed more minutes.

Alisson Becker will be staying put but Liverpool needs a strong number two to work with him. Whether Jaros is ready for that role, though, and whether anyone can put enough money for Kelleher on the table for the Reds to be tempted to sell, remains to be seen.

Liverpool.com says: As long as Jaros was guaranteed to be the number one choice at Salzburg, that could be an ideal move for him. You can predict quite easily how the Austrian side will play under Lijnders and it could be really good for his development as a player After a season at that level, he might then be ready for the next step. At the very least, his transfer value would increase again.
