Peter Leven eyed by Barnsley as Aberdeen incoming boss Jimmy Thelin could lose key coach

Peter Leven is reportedly being considered by Barnsley in their hunt for a new manager.

The Aberdeen interim boss has been placed on the Tykes' shortlist as they consider their options in a bid to replace Neill Collins who was sacked earlier this week. The club sit in the playoff places but have piled the pressure on themselves by opting to axe Collins at this late stage. Leven, meanwhile, has had the reins at Pittodrie since Neil Warnock left the job and has impressed with some decent performances including against Celtic in last weekend's Scottish Cup semi-final.

The Daily Record report that the 40-year-old is one coach who has attracted interest from Oakwell having previous experience down south working with Middlesbrough's academy.

The link comes just before new permanent gaffer Jimmy Thelin arrives from Elfsborg in the summer.

The Swede hopes to work with Leven as part of his backroom staff but a move to Barnsley would see that thrown out and the manager needing to find his own assistant coach.
